Awesome Art Picks: Superman, Wolverine, Elektra and More

The coolest comic book art you won't see in comics.

Each and every week we gather up the best comic book art that you will not see in comics. The reason you won't is because artists often do sketches for fun and commissions and post them on their websites, blogs and Tumblrs. Many artists often arrange commissions through their sites so check them out for more detail if you're looking to own a cool original piece. They also occasionally post their comic convention schedule so you can find out if they'll be in your neck of the woods anytime soon.

Marcio Takara posted this Supergirl sketch (that he did 'for fun') on his Tumblr. He also posted a work-in-progress image and a 'tiny' Wonder Girl.

Mahmud Asrar posted severe NYCC 2012 pre-commissions on his Tumblr this week.

Last week was Valentine's Day and Cliff Chiang posted a Wonder Woman/Superman sketch on his Tumblr. He also a Big Barda pic he did for the 2012 Baltimore Comic-Con charity auction.

Brett Booth posted several sketches this week on his blog. We get to see some of his Nightwing designs as well as some sketched versions of covers. Also, Wolverine and a dinosaur!

Chris Giarrusso posted a quick head sketch convention variant cover commission on his website.

Todd Nauck posted a few sketches on his Tumblr and Instagram.

Joel Gomez posted a couple commissions on his Tumblr.

Dustin Nguyen posted some more art on his Tumblr this week. Hopefully you recognize what this is from.

Ron Salas posted a few new pieces on his website. Check out his Earth 2 Dick Grayson, Psylocke and Superman.

In case you didn't hear, Brian Buccellato will be on next week's Invincibly Super Massive Comic Book Podcast of Stuff. Here's a quick sketch he did while we were talking. Yes, he did it in a Flash...

Agnes Garbowska posted an Adventure Time themed Valentine's Day pic on her Tumblr this week.

Sean "Cheeks" Galloway posted a few new sketches on his Deviant Art Page.

Paolo Rivera posted a couple sketches on his blog and noted that they're both wearing two versions of the same mask.

Gene Gonzales started catching up on the Green Lantern Animated Series. Here's his version of Aya posted on his blog.

Mike McKone posted a Captain America sketch on his TwitPic page.

Philip Tan posted some more art on his Facebook Page. And the Spider-Man 2099 is for a Peter David Benefit Auction. You can find out more information on this item and others by clicking HERE.

Chris Samnee has been pretty busy lately but he still finds time to post several great pieces on his blog.

We've been seeing a lot of Denis Medri's Rockabilly Batman sketches. Check out this video that an Italian site made using his art.

That's it for this week. Hope you enjoyed all the great art.

as always, some of these are just soooo good. This might be the first week with no Skottie Young tho.

G-Man is slacking this week.

Posted by G-Man

@JamDamage: I can't add new Skottie Young art if he doesn't post new art on his site.

Wow, Joel Gomez' piece of Darkseid standing over a beaten Superman takes the cake for me this week!

Make Rockabilly Batman happen.

Posted by InnerVenom123

What is the plan with Rockabilly Batman? Tease us with it until enough people are teased that there are legions tearing at DC's door?

...

Because that's actually kind of genius.

That video is great btw .

A lot of these are soooo generic

Does it bother anyone else that the Rockabilly Batman video had NO rockabilly music in it?! Rockabilly is blues and country influenced, and generally uptempo. Like Elvis, Johnny Cash (not all his songs tho), Carl Perkins, The Reverend Horton Heat, The Stray Cats. The Adam West Batman theme is more generic 60s rock, Blue Monday is more R&B (maybe Boogie-Woogie), Pipeline is surf rock.

Should've had Blue Suede Shoes, Baby Let's Play House, or Brand New Cadillac, or something along those lines.

@archangel0127: type "awesome art pics" in the search bar with only "topics" highlighted.

The video was pretty cool also Booster, Spidey 2099 and Wildfire(? Been awhile) all the rest are good picks as well.

LOVE the first two supergirl and wonder girl drawings - so cute! Also I adore that Elektra drawing, the Psylocke one (to die for) and samnee's supergirl redesign! And of course nguyens' genie pic.

Also:

Phil noto's new uncanny x-men variant is so spectacular, that it actually makes emma's new costume look reasonable!

Posted by Mrfuzzynutz

Great assortment, all excellent works!

  1. Even the amazing Phil Noto can't save the visual mess that is The Uncanny X-men, Magneto just looks like they forgot to color him lol
  2. I feel bad for whoever has to ink Brett Booth's work...so much details!
  3. That Robin by Samnee is outstanding
  4. spidey 2099 is always good to see!

Awesome selections as always.

Perhaps you should make a video and show us how it should be done?

I don't know how to do video editing or make animatics like that from still images, I just love rockabilly music.

Posted by Grey56

Nauck and Galloway took the show for me - but a special note for Gomez's Darkseid should be included. Thanks for sharing.

Posted by Zeeguy91

Denis Medri's Rockabilly Batman is incredible!!

For some reason, his take on Catwoman in her civies looked like Zooey Deschanel to me.

Posted by WonderHunter

This is amazing! In love with Mahmud Asrar art.

I miss my cat Beast...

Posted by weaponx

That first image of wolverine is the worst depiction of him. I really like that Aya picture, too bad that show is canceled...

Posted by danhimself

1. Brett Boothe is amazing!!!

2. Cheeks needs to be on an ongoing title stat!

3. I want Aya brought over to the DCU proper!

brett booth=amazing!!!!!!!

Posted by Darknite365

Why doesn't DC make a one shot of Rockabilly Batman? Do like a Gotham by Gaslight Kinda deal. I mean we already have so much Batman out right now. It seems like it would be the perfect time.

Posted by Imperius_Rex

I love that psylocke. Thickish thighs = rad.

Posted by dcfox

@sora_thekey: I prefer the cat look over this new look. Or even if they went all the way and reverted him back to his human form pre secondary mutation.

Posted by mekon

That was great, really liked the Batman rockabilly idea.

Posted by hazmat103

love that 2099 art.
