Awesome Art Picks: Justice League, Black Cat, Psylocke and More

The coolest comic book art you won't see in comics.

It's the weekend so that means it's time to unwind and enjoy some really cool comic book art that won't appear in comics. The reason you won't see them in comics is because artists often do sketches for fun or commissions and post them on their blogs, Tumblrs and Twitter accounts. It gives them a chance to work on characters they might not normally get the chance to and gives us the opportunity to appreciate some really fine artwork. Many of these artists also do commissions through their sites so be sure to check them out for more information.

Let's start out with Philip Tan. Last week we saw a pretty cool take on Mysterio he did and this week he posted what he can do with Psylocke. I can't wait to see how his (and James Robinson's) He-Man comic will be.

== TEASER ==

Mike Mayhew did a few 'character sketch cards' this week. They're available for sale so you should be following him on Twitter to find out when he puts them up. As you can imagine, they go quickly.

I still get sad when I think about how we haven't had any new Calvin and Hobbes comics in the longest time. I'm sure there's even some of you out there that weren't even alive when the strip was ongoing. Chris Giarrusso did a sketch last weekend at Project Comic Con and it turns out this was the first time he drew them. He also did another "Tribute Tuesday" this week! Check out his site for more fun including a ton of strips and even video.

I just stumbled across Steve Epting's blog. These sketches were posted last month from Boston Comic Con but since I didn't post them then, it's not too late to check them out.

Gabriel Hardman posted a couple sketches on his site this week and put them up for sale. Of course, these have already been sold by now.

"It's a trap!"

Here are some more from last month I completely missed. Tom Fowler did these sketches at the Ottawa Con and posted them on his blog. Shame on me for missing them.

Time for some Robert Atkins art. Robert had some pre-order commissions for Heroes Con and posted them. Check these beauties out.

Peter Nguyen appears to be traveling all around the world or something. He posted this sketch of Zatanna and mentioned drawing it in Sydney. He also did another sketch of Harley.

Terry Dodson posted some more sketches from Kapow over at his Deviant Art page. Always nice to see his art.

Check out this Avengers and Ultron sketch Daniel HDR posted on his site. Holy cow! Wonder if we'd ever see Ultron in an Avengers movie?

Agnes Garbowska was featured in last week's Web Comic Spotlight. Check out these postcard commissions she recently did and posted on her Tumblr.

Gene Gonzales has been posting some HeroesCon advance sketches on his blog. Check these out.

Todd Nauck posted a few new pieces on his Tumblr this week but check out the first one. It actually made me snort.

Joel Gomez posted a Black Cat on his Tumblr (which makes our second one this week).

Michael Walsh has been doing a "Sketch Request Mondays" on his Tumblr. Last week he did Zatanna and Batman.

Skottie Young changed up his Daily Sketches on his site. He'll ask for word suggestions, pick one and draw what inspires him. Here's what he did with "lump."

Dustin Nguyen did a BEYOND image and posted it on his Tumblr. The universe feels like it's growing more and more.

We'll wrap this week's edition with some Marcio Takara art posted on his Tumblr.

That's it for this week. I'll be on vacation this week but next week's edition should go up as normally scheduled.

@G-Man: lolz. good one

Marcio Takara's Superman and Power Girl, Daniel HDR's Avengers/Ultron, and Philip Tan's Psylocke FTW. But lets be honest, all of these are GREAT!

Posted by Miss_Garrick

As awesome as it would be to have Ultron in an "AVENGERS" movie, that would mean Henry Pym would have to show up. Nothing is worth that!!

justice league trinity has 2 males and one female and their disciple is 2 girls and one boy.

Posted by fluffypigeons

O YEAH THIS IS THE BEST!!!!!

Posted by Planewalker

How could they forgot Artgerm Psylocke...

The Trinity and their former sidekicks are gorgeous.

I really don't get why Comicvine doesn't highlight the amazing art being produced in the competitions on this sites Art forums.....

Posted by Loki9876

@Miss_Garrick:I strongly disagree and think you don't know much about hte character (Pym). He's actually a very cool character.

Posted by G-Man

@Chaos Burn: The 'angle' for this has always been about professional artists. Ones that have had art published in comics. I come across lots of great stuff from time to time. That's just how this has been. Nothing against other artists. As for the art here, that's why we created a forum just for artists here. I can't think of many other sites that do that.

todd nauck is on point

The He-man one is gold

That Justice League Beyond errr....."trinity" is awesome. The Jean Grey sketch card is amazing as well.

Skeletor FTW....always.

Posted by ReVamp

Cyclops image is the best this week.

Nyugen and Dodson are awesome, as per usual.

Posted by Miss_Garrick

@Loki9876: He's a man who's had numerous mental breakdowns over the years because he won't leave super herorics and he hit his wife during one of those breakdowns.

Posted by Chaos Burn

@G-Man: I understand, but you should see some of the work that users are making - it's incredible! I just hate the idea of them being in a dark corner of this site. I think if you had the time, highlighting their hard work would help them share their art and introduce Comicvine users to that section, seriously just go check out the current competitions if you have 5 minutes spare.

That's a stunning Psylocke.

Lol @ Skottie's Lump.

WOW all of them such talent

It would be really nice to see art from some of the artists here. There has been some awesome stuff posted over there that hasn't gotten much exposure....it would be great for Vine users to gain some measure of recognition for their art.

Super girl still be looking hot..

Epic, awesome, fantastic, and just plain great!

Posted by wdchefdave

I'd pick a fight with Psylocke just to see how she keeps her thong from crawling up her butt!

All good or great artwork!

The Big Marvel 3 on Ultron...

And, The Big DC 3 with their "shadows"...

Edited by Loki9876

@Miss_Garrick:He had his breakdowns yes, he hit his wife once yes but what's cool about Pym is that he doesn't want to hide this fact. He tried all of his life to redeem himself for that instance, he still feels bad about it after his wife dead years ago, he even made a center were women who are suffering of spousal abuse can find help. That's what cool about him.

And it was never the intention of the writer for pym to hit her it was supposed to look accidental but the artist made a mistake. An other thing this comic is really old. Another thing if you follow these rules then batman is a child hitter, reed richards beated his wife multiple times, Hal Jordan is a pedophile. I even think Spider-man has hit his wife once (I'm not sure about spider-man).

My mothertongue is not English so sorry if their are faults.

Lots of great art, but Loving the Takara stuff!

Posted by Miss_Garrick

@Loki9876: that is cool about his opening a center for domestic abuse victims, but I think we'll just have to agree to disagree about our opinions.

Great work this week. Love that Zatanna.
