Awesome Art Picks: Jean Grey, Magik, Rocket Raccoon and More

The coolest comic book art you won't see in comics.

Every week we search for the the best comic book art that will not be seen in actual comics. The reason they won't is because artists often draw sketches for fun or commissions and post them on their Tumblrs, blogs and websites. Some artists even arrange commissions through their sites so be sure to check them out for more information.

Skottie Young posted several sketches on his website.

Marcio Takara has been keeping busy on his pre-NYCC commissions. Check out the latest posted on his Tumblr as well as info on getting added to the list if you're going.

Yildiray Cinar posted a couple sketches on his Instagram.

Tom Raney posted some pre-con sketches for Baltimore (I think) on his Twitter page.

Peter Nguyen also posted some recent commissions on his Tumblr.

Ryan Stegman is at Cincinnati Comicon this weekend and posted these sketches on his Tumblr.

Who doesn't like Mysterio? Check out Gabriel Hardman's sketch posted on his blog.

Mahmud Asrar is working on pre-NYCC sketches. Here's some he posted on his Tumblr.

Daniel HDR will also be at NYCC. Here's some pre-con sketches he posted on his Tumblr.

Agnes Garbowska is at Baltimore this weekend. Here's some recent commissions she posted on her Tumblr.

Paolo Rivera posted this recent Zatanna commission on his blog.

Here's some new art Joel Gomez posted on his Tumblr.

Brett Booth went back to the future on his blog.

Michael Walsh posted some new sketches on his Tumblr. Nightcrawler was colored by Kelly Fitzpatrick.

Check out this Booster Gold sketch by Kevin Maguire (shared by @FotoCub).

Todd Nauck posted some new art on his Instagram and Tumblr.

That's it for this week. We should have plenty more great art next time with the conventions this weekend.

God I miss Scotts black one piece costume. I mean before they added all that gold to it.

I love Agnes's Usagi Yojimbo picture.

Many great this week. Really love Brett Booth's Spider-Man 2099 and Superman Beyond.

Really love mini-Vader

How perfect is that Kevin Maguire Booster commission? Man, I'd kill to have that hanging on my wall. Next con I go to, if Tom Raney is there I'm gonna get him to do a piece for me. His stuff of late is looking really good.

I think this week was the best week.

There are a ton of good pieces, but those Booth pics....simply amazing.

Booth's Spider-Man 2099 and Superman Beyond are just things of beauty.

Awesome drawings, with a special highlight for Booth's drawings.

I know this new Lobo sucks, yet, the drawing was also well made.

Ghost Rider fighting Mr. Stay Puft.......beat that.

BOOSTER! Awesome pick!

Also a fan of Jean, and the pick of Jason and Dick.

Posted by Shallbecomeabattoo

Wow! When drawn with the right attitude, this new Lobo still works!

That drawing of Spider Man 2099 is awesome!!! Glad to see him back in the spot light too in Superior Spider Man.

Great week for these artists. This particular piece was my fav though:

This is SO AWESOME!! The tokages with pom-poms are so cute, I can't find a word big enough to describe how adorable!

Posted by LordRequiem

What is up with this terrible idea to go back to Havok's lame costume? He looks stupid, in comparison to his more modern suit.

Posted by dondave

Many great this week. Really love Brett Booth's Spider-Man 2099 and Superman Beyond.

Really love mini-Vader

Posted by Wilbertus

Wow there are some real beauties here!

I especially adore the mini-Vader and the buritto eating Deadpool!

Cinar's Lobo is just great!

Edited by Scarlet_Spider_Forever

What a fantastic week for art picks!

Darth Vader vs. Kitty.... So upset I couldn't make it to the Baltimore Comic-Con this year, especially now that I learned Raney, Garbowska, Maihack and a few others that I feature on my deviantArt Picks will be there.

Edited by Decept-O

Just incredible, every blasted piece here is wonderful. Wow wow wow!

Booth's Spider-Man 2099 and Superman Beyond are just things of beauty.

Agreed. I'd argue his art looks better with plain pencils though.

I loved the Nightwing and Red Hood, Woverine vs Hulk, Spider-Man 2099 and Rocket Raccoon. Those were truly amazing.

Edited by Wolverine08

Mahumd Asrar draws some good looking women.

Posted by Hawkguy

Not only does Brett booth draw beautifully, but his sketch choices are always great.

First time ever hearing of Yildiray Cinar and I'm impressed.

Awesome picks this week!

I agree he has the same problem as Finch. I feel the inkers and sometimes the colourists ruin their art because when you see the plain pencils they look amazing.

Yeah, the same could arguably be said for Doug Mahnke. Most of the artistic team he worked with on Green Lantern did a great job but when he worked on a couple of issues between Justice League and Justice League of America, it was just messy.

Yeah forgot about that one I agree with that too. Finch's work at Marvel was amazing but his current DC work...not so much. Booth's work varies as it used to be meh but has recently gotten better. The preview pages for Doomsday look amazing though.

All respect to Cinar as he is a great artist, but the douchy looking Lobo needs to be stricken from comicdom!

Posted by Deranged Midget

@theincrediblesuperhulk8642: Yeah, Booth's art is kind of a mixed bag for me. Some of his stuff, like Superman, is amazing but I just can't get into his work on Teen Titans.

Booth would be amazing on a Spider-man series

I just can't decide this week. Darn...so many good pieces!

Posted by HeraldofGanthet

@pokeysteve: Ghost Rider fighting Mr. Stay Puft.......beat that.

That would be a tough task for sure. Never would've thought of that one. LOL at Darth Vader Force-Lifting an angry kitten! And Tom Rainey's Poison Ivy makes me want to go and plant a garden right now!

Agreed. His past work for the Pre 52 also wasn't that great but his current work on JLA, Nightwing and some other stuff look amazing. I'm excited for his work on Doomsday and Batman/Superman. though unlike most people I'm not a fan of Jae Lee's art (although it's really good in Batman/Superman).

Posted by lykopis

Raney's Poison Ivy looks like she's twelve.

Agnes Garbowska's Belle, Sleeping Beauty and Wonder Woman is too adorable for words.

Gah.

Posted by teclo

Jean and jailbait Ivy are nice. You know, this just adds to my feeling that a lot of comic art is better before getting inked and coloured.

Edited by Revendawn

I really want to see Ryan Stegman draw old school Venom.

Oh, is Brett Booth taking over for Jae Lee on Batman/Superman? That's a shame, I was liking the artistic tone of that book so far. It was unique.

Man I love that round bowl design for Mysterio. In fact, I've always sorta loved Mysterio. In a perfect world, Spidey 3 would be Venom-less and a Raimi Spidey 4 would be Mysterio. God dammit, why can't *real life* have alternate worlds you could move to just to see the movies you want. :>

They will be doing rotating arcs.

@deranged_midget: Well in the November solicits for Batman/Superman it clearly shows Brett Booth as the artist. Plus he had an interview announcing him coming on the title and he explained how he will do one arc and then Jae Lee will do the next then he'll do the one after that and so on and so forth.

AAP are my favourite articles on comicvine. These are all beautiful drawings, but it seems to me that everytime you do this article, you post works by mostly the same artists. It would be cool to sometimes see some other comic book artists' work.

Edited by MixMastaMicah5

God bless, please let Ryan Stegman stay attached to Spider-Man's universe for forever. Huge career ahead for him. And Brett Booth did an equally awesome 2099 rendition. Love the awesome art picks section.

I wish I didn't have to praise Skottie Young and Brett Booth everyweek, but theirconsistenly amazing work gives me no other option. Glad to see Tom Raney on the list again, and he's got some real winners this week. Marcio Takara's Marvel Girl is great, and I can only imagine how much better it will look inked and colored (I assume that's in the plan). Not usually a fan of Agnes Garbowska, but she has some really great pictures this week as well.

And the art itself is really good, but I am saddened to have a reminder of new-New 52 Lobo.

Posted by HolySerpent

this weeks arts was really good. only problem there's no color

Posted by Barkley

Superman beyond is awesome ...Nightwing and Red Hood are great and the solo Wolverine is hauntingly good......and special shout out to Spiderman 2099!!
