Awesome Art Picks: Jean Grey, Catwoman, Batman and More

The coolest comic book art you won't see in comics.

Each week we gather up the coolest comic art on the internet that will never appear in actual comic books. The reason is, artists often do sketches for fun or for commissions and post them on their websites, Tumblrs, Twitter pages and blogs. They're too good to go unnoticed. Many of these artists even offer commissions through their websites so be sure to check them out.

Pretty much any time Denis Medri posts something on his Deviant Art page, you can bet it's going to be stellar. He's been doing a lot of character redesigns and this week we have a couple more steampunk versions as well as a western take as well. Be sure to check his page as he mentioned he'll be taking commissions soon.

Terry Dodson posted some SDCC commissions on his Deviant Art page. It should be noted that not all of them are of female characters. Just most of them are.

Mike Mayhew posted a Psylocke sketch online recently but I missed with it with all the chaos of the last couple weeks.

Mitch Breitweiser has redesigned his website. Check out the recent Spider-Man and Batman sketches he posted.

What are your thoughts on Catwoman's costume in The Dark Knight Rises? Cameron Stewart said he hated it at first but likes it after watching the movie. Here's a sketch he posted on his Tumblr.

Who besides me is missing Stephanie Brown? Agnes Garbowska posted a couple commissions featuring Stephanie (one as Nightwing) as well as one of Rapunzel and Pascal on her Tumblr.

Daniel HDR also posted a (regular) Nightwing sketch on his Instagram page.

Dustin Nguyen posted a flashback sketch of Superman with his parents on his Tumblr this week. It's great when Dustin throws in a hint of his humor.

Todd Nauck posted a mash-up of Kid Flash from the Young Justice series and the New 52 on his Twitter page.

It'll never get old for me, especially if Chris Giarrusso is involved. Check out his Ironing Man sketch as well as a Tribute Tuesday post from his website.

Peter Nguyen posted a few new sketches on his Tumblr this week.

Ron Salas posted a few different versions of Batman on his website. And check out the Jean Grey pic he did for Heroescon.

I feel like we haven't seen too much of Pixie lately in the X-Men books. Here's a sketch Gene Gonzales posted on his blog.

Skottie Young has started doing original drawings based on word suggestions over Twitter and posting them on his site. Here's one he did based on "smile" and also a sketch of a monster from under the bed.

Yesterday on our podcast we brought up Ben Templesmith. He's been doing sketches and posting them on his Instagram account.

Somehow I missed Freddie E. Williams II at SDCC. Looks like he was super busy. He's posted a bunch of commissions on his Twit Pic page this week.

That's it for this week. Let us know what you thought. Be sure to check out the artists' page for more awesome art.

Tony Guerrero is the Editor-in-Chief of Comic Vine. You can follow him on Twitter @GManFromHeck. He never gets tired of looking at cool comic book art.

I love those Steampunk drawings

Steampunk DD is really cool. I like how Freddie Williams colored the Infinity Gems in Thanos' gauntlet but left everything else B&W;.

The western stuff is AWESOME! I'm not even a big Daredevil & Superman fan, but I would totally read western themed comics!

Posted by LordRequiem

Great stuff from Dodson and Nguyen as per usual. Pixie is excellent also, because she's Welsh!!!

But the stand out for me this week is Williams' Gambit, that is simply superb.

Posted by SolthesunGod

Psylocke looks just like Eva Longoria.

These are totally awesome!

Cannot get enough of Denis Medri's work! If Marvel or DC don't give him a period series soon, something is very wrong with the world :)

Posted by CaptainMexico

Batman and Deadpool. HELL YEAH!

Posted by GreenFuse

I think it's time I confess a hard truth...I love Skottie Young. That Gambit is sick as hell too. Love, love, love!

COOL artwork!

Posted by RobinRX

Anybody else think Ben Templesmith's sketches and comicbook art have always been kind of kid-like, in a deranged kind of way? Not to say it's not good, he's one of my favourites and his art is instantly recognisable.

'and they will never know'

This made my day.

Skottie Young you were great in small doses.... now your over exposed and everything you do either bores me or makes me hate your art style

I thinks that's the Blackcat...

What is Catwoman holding in her hand? It looks like something dirty if you know what I mean.

psylocke looks hawtt

Posted by Decept-O

Love it ALL! Terry Dodson kicks so much his rendition of Cap, need I say anything about his female characters? As always, just wow!

Mayhew's Batman is fantastic. The Steampunk versions, Pixie, everything else, just wonderful to see. That Superman by Freddie E. Williams II is off the chain. Nice to see Ben Templesmith's renditions of comic characters, nice departure from his Zombies and Horror art ( which is ALWAYS top-notch).
