This is the point in the week we gather up all the really cool comic art that won't show up in comic books. The reason they won't is because artists often do sketches for fun of commissions and post them on their blogs and Tumblrs. Sometimes they also do commissions through their sites so be sure to check them out for more information on getting your own.
This weekend is the Long Beach Comic and Horror Con. Joel Gomez did an exclusive print available at the convention (check it out HERE). Joel's been working on the UpperDeck/Marvel 2012 Premier Sketch Card Set. Here's the ones he posted on his Tumblr this week. Be sure to look for him if you're going to the convention.
.
Dustin Nguyen will also be at Long Beach this weekend. He didn't post many updates to his Tumblr this week (that's okay since DC released the awesome BATMAN: LI'L GOTHAM digitally this week). What he did post is just a tiny example of the humor bubbling under the surface.
If you're at the Long Beach con, you can also find Norm Rapmund there. Check out this Silver Samurai commission he posted on his Twitter page.
Todd Nauck is another artist that will be at Long Beach this weekend. He mentioned on his Tumblr that if you follow him on Twitter and RT any of the sketches he posts over the weekend, he'll select a random tweeter to get a head sketch of their choosing. Check out what he posted on his Tumblr this week. (The FF piece was for the Hero Initiative Fantastic Four 100 Project).
Chris Giarrusso posted a sketch for a pin up that would appear in the MAIL ORDER NINJA comic (currently being funded at Kickstarter). He also posted another cover sketch on his site as well.
Ryan Stegman is getting ready for his new gig on SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN. Here's a sketch he posted on his Tumblr along with a Thor face sketch.
Mahmud Asrar posted this nice Hellboy image on his site this week.
Skottie Young added some more Daily Sketches to his site this week. When he posts them, they're up for sale. You can imagine they sell quickly.
Peter Nguyen won't be making this year's Long Beach convention but he did post some new pieces on his Tumblr including a colored version of the Zatanna piece we saw last week.
Funny story about these Paolo Rivera pics from his blog. I was at the airport and looking at the images for this post. A little three-year-old boy behind me saw all three images on my screen and said, "Whooooa!" He asked what I was doing so I tried explaining that I run a comic book website. Then he asked me which one I was going to pick. Obviously I picked all three.
Check out these commissions Daniel HDR posted on his Tumblr.
Michael Walsh posted this really cool Daredevil pic on his Tumblr this week.
Adam Kubert posted a few sketches on his Tumblr this week.
Philip Tan is still posting sketches on his Facebook page (not that we're complaining one bit).
Denis Medri posted another image on his Deviant Art Page. Obviously inspired by a bit of news that broke this week.
Agnes Garbowska is getting ready to go to Japan later this month and posted about it on her Tumblr. She also posted some more commissions she recently did. Don't forget the project she's part of that only has a couple days left to reach the funding goal. More info HERE.
Brett Booth posts a sketch each week on his blog. Here's what he posted last week.
Robert Atkins updated his blog this week. Here's a few sketches he did recently.
Take a look at the penciled version of a commission Marcio Takara posted on his Tumblr.
That's it for this week. The plan is for another Mystery Art Challenge this weekend at the Long Beach Comic and Horror Con. So that means it should go live during the week and you'll see scans of the images in next week's edition.
