Awesome Art Picks: Deadpool, Batman, Black Bolt and More

The coolest comic book art you won't see in comics.

We all love comic book art, right? Each week we gather up the coolest comic art that will never appear in actual comic books. The reason you won't is because artists often draw sketches for fun or for commissions and post them on their websites, blogs, Tumblrs and Twitter pages. They are too cool to be overlooked.

This week we had a new issue of TEEN TITANS and check out Brett Booth's take on Earth 2 Batman, Earth 2 Robin/Huntress and...Blue Falcon and Dyno-Mutt posted on his blog.

Todd Nauck continues mixing things up by posting sketches on different mediums on his Tumblr. This week he's posted sketches done with watercolor and Pigma Micron markers as well as the iPad Paper53 app.

Dustin Nguyen has been drawing a lot of vampires and violence for AMERICAN VAMPIRE: LORD OF NIGHTMARES. He decided he needed to draw some lighter stuff and posted them on his Tumblr.

As we await the second issue of Ryan Stegman on FANTASTIC FOUR, he did post a couple sketches on his Tumblr to tide us over.

Fan Expo is going on this weekend. Sadly, we are not there. But Michael Walsh is one of many that is attending. Check out these limited prints he'll be selling posted on his Tumblr.

Are you ready for more Batman? Here's a great Chris Giarrusso posted on his site along with another Tribute Tuesday.

Denis Medri has been doing a lot of re-imaginings lately but this week he posted a nice tribute to Top Gun on his Deviant Art page. It might not be comic related but there was a character named Iceman...

New York Comic-Con will be here soon and Daniel HDR is getting ready by working on some pre-convention commissions. Check out his Tumblr for more information.

Joel Gomez did a few sketches this week and posted them on his Tumblr.

Marcio Takara has been posting a lot of sketches and colored pics on this Tumblr this week. That's always a good thing.

Paolo Rivera posted a couple older character studies he did for Ghost Rider and Doc Ock on his blog this week.

Peter Nguyen is also at Fan Expo this weekend (sitting at P48b). Here's some pre-commissions he posted on his Tumblr.

Mike McKone posted some commissions along with a cover reproduction of WONDER WOMAN #229 on his TwitPic page.

Philip Tan is continuing to post sketches on his Facebook page.

That's it for this week. Hopefully we'll be seeing a load of more new art next week with Fan Expo happening. If you ever run into any artists that we feature here, be sure to let them know you've seen their stuff here. If you know of any other pro-artists with blogs or Tumblrs we should be looking at, let me know.

Philip Tan's art is like....damn...if I ever see him in real life, it'd be like a god walking among mortals.

Great stuff as always.

Dat Poison Ivy..

Tan and Booth appear to have a similar style, they're both the best here I think. Also huzzah for Black Bolt.

Love seeing brett booth's evolution. I remember his stormwatch days, then his incredible growth when he started doing backlash. It also helps that he's from the same area I am.

As ever, gorgeous frameworthy work by Takara, Rivera and the Nguyens - and scratchy, generic Jim Lee Stylee fare from Booth, who seems as incapable of drawing female proportions in a non-exploitative way as Lee himself.

Michael Walsh deserves a shout-out too. Gorgeous work!

Great batch from Takara and Rivera...I also adore that last Aquaman from Philip Tan!

I especially love the art from Philip Tan!

First time I've heard of him.

So so so much awesome. I am blown away by all of it, can't even begin to post which is my fave.

Gotta love that Blue Falcon and Dyno-Mutt!

If only I could draw like any one of these artists....just wow.

Poison Ivy FTW!

There are some good stuff here, but none that made me geek squeal like usual.

Blue Falcon looks pretty cool

Posted by longbowhunter

Philip Tan's been killing it on here. Nightcrawler, Poison Ivy, Aquaman. I love 'em all. The Michael Walsh Daredevil and Punisher is pretty great.

Anybody else pick up on the very clear sexual subtext of the Wonder Woman bondage scene?

I love the batman getting a speeding ticket and the red hood one is cool.

Posted by Donovan Montgomery

That Batgirl is pretty nice. I also like the Bullseye one right below it.  Lots more tasty food for the eyes today :)

Aquaman looks awesome

Posted by gunmetalgrey

@Novemberx2: His style definitely doesn't work with certain characters, but how exactly can you say that art is overrated when it's completely subjective?

So many great pieces this week.

Blue Falcon my favorite pic this week.

Posted by Icon

Love the black and whites.

Booth, Takara, and Tan are just awesome.

Posted by RedheadedAtrocitus

McKone's Black Bolt FTW, but all of these are great. IT really is hard for me to pick week to week what the best is since I always want all of em!

Posted by Avenging-X-Bolt

Lovin Tan's Nightcrawler and Aquaman, and especially Booth's Blue Falcon and Dyno-mutt.

Posted by xanthiss

The Blue Falcon and Dyno-mutt is awesome. Good job Booth. Brings me back.

What is the deal with the baby characters and redoing every character as a baby? I think it is getting old.

Comic writers constantly found ways to have WW in sexually compromising scenes. io9 (a sci-fi/science/fantasy site) created a list of WW's top villains, and I'd say 80% of the panels they included demonstrate some level of demeaning innuendo.

Like always, Phillip Tan's work is incredible.

Amen to Poison Ivy.

All of Nauck's stuff is good and Takara can draw a good looking gal.

Posted by wdchefdave

Blue Falcon... Black Bolt... Aquaman...

All the rest were just GREAT!

Posted by kagato

That Deadpool sketch is beyond epic, he can look pretty badass with the right penciler behind him.

Brett Booth and Philip Tan are AMAZING.

Really? Booth? No.

Phillip Tan is hit and miss with me. I enjoy his pencil work but I didn't enjoy his work on Agent Orange. The stuff he has here is a total hit though! And i do LOVE Takara! And McKone's work is looking incredible too.

Posted by ARMIV2

All epic, especially that Ms. Marvel one.

Posted by feebadger

Why does Denis Medris' work remind me so much of Bill Plymptons?

Also, how is it that i'm not a huge fan of Billy Tans' comic book work but LOVE his pencils? Go figure.

Posted by blueninjapanther

Brent Booth's Earth 2 Batman looks amazing.

Posted by CubicTurtle

Philip Tan's work looks symply amazing! Deadpool in particular, just wow.
