Awesome Art Picks: Captain America, Bucky, Spider-Man and More

Some of this week's coolest comic book art you won't see in comic books.

You can't have comic book without art. Artists spend a lot of time drawing because, obviously, it's their job. They're not always drawing for their assigned books. Often they will draw and sketch other characters for fun, commissions or just to experiment. It really doesn't matter why they do as long as we keep getting to see their amazing artwork. Many artists have their own blog or Tumblr pages and like to post and share their work. It's simply way too good to go unnoticed. Each week we do a sweep of the internet to try to find the coolest art out there to ensure that everyone gets a chance to see it.

Our first comes from Joel Gomez. Joel is no stranger to Awesome Art Picks and it was this version of Captain America that really caught my eye this week.

Joel often uses inkwash and watercolors. He recently talked to us a little on the subject and shared some other pieces of his art. He also did a nice piece with Storm and Rogue.

A couple weeks ago, Peter Nguyen posted a sketch of Supergirl and said it was part of something he was working on. Here's an update on that piece.

Paolo Rivera posted another watercolor image and don't forget, he'll be at New York Comic-Con doing commissions. It's not many that can make J. Jonah Jameson look good.

How about some Cliff Chiang art? Feels like we can't get the next issue of Wonder Woman soon enough. Cliff will also be at New York Comic-Con so be sure to look for him in Artist Alley.

Also check out his Batman: Black and White statue design.

What about Bucky Barnes? He's in the news recently...sort of...maybe. Over at Comic Twart, some different renditions were posted. This first is by Tom Fowler.

Here's a couple versions of the same image by Ron Salas. It's mentioned that Mike Hawthorne urged Ron to use the art as part of a wartime newspaper clipping.

You might be asking where's the Phil Noto art this week? Usually he posts a bit on his Tumblr. This week there was only really one. And it wasn't comic-related. But I'm posting it anyway. It's the Beatles from Rubber Soul.

Francesco Francavilla has been posting his quick spoiler-free tributes to the latest Doctor Who episodes. Here's his vision of "Closing Time."

And here's from the season finale, "The Wedding of River Song." Yikes! I still haven't watched it.

The final images come from DayBreakCG.com. You can consider these our honorable mentions since they're so dang cool. I actually saw the Cap one last week but wasn't sure if it was new or not. Then Norm pointed the website in my direction. So if you haven't already seen these or the others, check 'em out.
