Awesome Art Picks: Captain America, Batman, Wonder Woman & More

The coolest comic book art you won't see in comics.

It's the end of the week and you've probably already read this week's new comics. Now it's time to kick back and enjoy some really cool comic book art that won't appear in actual comic books. Artist love to draw. When they're not working on their actual assignments, they often draw sketches for fun and post them on their blogs and Tumblr accounts.

Last week many asked how come there wasn't any Phil Noto art featured. Well...I didn't see any new pieces from Mr. Noto. He is busy doing a great job on X-23. To make up for his absence, here is another in his series of retro-style images. This one takes place in 1973, and features Storm and Luke Cage.

Check out his Tumblr page to see others in this series (or past editions of Awesome Art Picks).

Phil also posted an early X-23 character sketch this week. Let's hope she doesn't pop her feet claws and ruin her shoes.

What about Batman? We have a couple Batmans this week. The first is by Joel Gomez on his Tumblr.

The second Batman image is by Mike Hawthorne.

In case you weren't aware, the 'New 52' Wonder Woman #1 comes out next Wednesday. Cliff Chiang has been posting some sketches of the Amazonian Princess on his Tumblr.

He also posted this 'early promo image' for the book.

He doesn't just draw Wonder Woman. Check out his Daredevil and Emma Frost sketches from the Baltimore Comic-Con.

Mitch Breitweiser posted this "fun little Captain America sketch" he did on his page. Pretty sweet, huh?

Francis Manapul is busily working on his Flash book. He mentioned enjoying playing around with graphic design and took some flats from an upcoming issue and made a teaser out of them.

And our last image this week is a 3D render of Young Tony Stark.

That's it for this week. What did you think of these pics? Be sure to look for another edition next week.

Really feeling the Joel Gomez Batman. Those water color bats are awesome.

I'm really not feeling Cliff Chiang

Sweet, I'm liking the Captain America one..

Posted by Sir_Deadpool

the Cap-Art is awesome!

Posted by jhazzroucher

I love the simplicity of the art made by Phil Noto. Storm and Cage just looks like ordinary children. Love the white hair of Storm.

Love the young tony stark!

Posted by Or35ti

My favorites are the second Batman image, the Wonder Woman promo image, and the Flash teaser. So awesome

Storm looks like she's pleasuring herself.

The young Tony Stark one is a bit odd. Looks like he should be in "Despicable Me". Love the Batman stuff!

the Wonder woman pics look good. I guess the costume is growing on me....except for the heels....if she's still wearing heels.

Posted by IcePrince_X

so wonder woman is back with her bikini again... tsk tsk... poor pants.

That Cap looks awesome.

That Captain America one is badass.

Love the Flash too

Cap. Americas helmet looks ridiculous. But that`s not a bad thing.

I was suprised to see a 3D pic in here.

love storm

I liked the second Batman image. Very cool. Still not sold on Cliff Chiang's visual interpretation of Diana. Anyone else think it looks like the handle of the battle axe is going through her neck ?

That would explain her expression.

I thought the Cap one looks a little messy.

I actually really like Cliff Chiang's take on Wonder Woman, it's super punk rock. I love Manapul, but his graphic design stuff isn't the greatest, but I know Flash is gonna be a great piece of work!

Cool picks!

Posted by frochez

I love the picks of X-23 and young Tony Stark. I have just one question: does Emma Frost have a single outfit that doesn't make her look like a high class whore?

Posted by GraveSp

the first batman is crazy skinny, good picture though.

Posted by pikahyper

I'm liking that cap.

Posted by NXH

some good pics this week. Like the cap one and the young tony stark reminds me of the rocketeer a bit.

The Flash one is great but so are the Batman ones and the Cap one.

Posted by -Vigil-

That last one is freakin' amazing. Way better than the Iron Man: Armored Adventures version.

YES! Big boots for WW. :D

I like boots.

Fine choices this week, thanks so much.

the 3D render of Tony looks cool

Posted by RedheadedAtrocitus

Joel Gomez's Batman is wickedly AWESOME and Cliff Chiang's Wonder Woman is top notch. I love the boots. Manapul's Flash New 52 art would be a GREAT poster. Great stuff!

It goes without saying at this point that Phil Noto is amazing. I also am really digging the Cap, and Francis Manapul's ad for the Flash is pretty awesome as well.

Posted by slick23

Really awesome images! That 3D pic was too sweet!

Posted by fbdarkangel

loving the wardrobe on X-23!

Posted by revbucky

Beautiful artwork! Thanks for sharing.

Posted by WobblySnake

That X-23 picture is plain awesome. Phil Noto's art on that book is great too. He should draw her wearing clothes like that in the book.

That 3D one was a bit unexpected but cool in its own way. I dont really see the Tony Stark in it. Either way its great.

absolutely gorgeous! all of them!

I really have little to no room to criticize here but I can't help but state I am not feeling the Storm and Luke Cage piece. It just looks like they are sketches of Caucasians with sand coloring and the piece is just "off" to me. Sorry. I do like the feel behind it I really do but it just bothers me. Again I have no room to talk and I am not hating.

My minor and unqualified quibble aside, Phil Noto is still an incredible artist and I DO love his retro style work of the Marvel characters, incredibly well done.

The Wonder Woman pieces are astounding. I mean, heck yes, kick ass! Everything is stunning, and again, thanks G-Man, for sharing more awesome art by talented artists.

::sigh:: Now, that's all I see; Luke's expression doesn't help either.

Oh, Phil.

Posted by Crimson Eagle

Cap looks great, but for some reason Tony reminds me of Generator Rex.

Posted by TheMadMonkey

What's Cap doing wearing Thor's helmet?

Posted by difficlus

love x-23

Posted by tonis

oh man, I love Chiang's promo on WW, such a classic feel to it. Mitch's Captain America is really killer too.

Most definitely though that young Tony Stark gets my attention, that's a very cool rendition and idea that I'd love to see more of. :)

Posted by RareCheshire

I'm very excited for Wonder Woman, that promo picture is really pretty!

Posted by igbarriga

The wonder woman ones killed it! Noto as usual fantastic, and the 3D Stark was just awesome.

Posted by Rise2Ragnarok

I'm loving what I've seen from Cliff on WW. I really hope the story turns out as good as I believe the art is.

Phil Noto, stop raiding my closet for inspiration. First Psylocke in a Joy Division tee now X-23 and her sneakers. Those are my favorite pair of Vans.
