Awesome Art Picks: Avengers Vs X-Men, Rogue and More

The coolest comic book art you won't see in comics.

It's that time again. Each week we gather up the coolest comic book art we can find that will not be appearing in comics. The reason they won't is because artists often do sketches and commissions and post them on their blogs, Tumblrs and Twitter pages. Some artists even take commissions online so be sure to check out their sites to find out more.

Philip Tan is continuing his massive posting of character sketches on his Facebook page. Check out his Magneto, Black Canary and Rogue.

How do people get their art featured on this list? Do you have to be famous?

I am neither American nor particularly intelligent - someone is going to have to explain that Obama joke for me...

Stegman's Scarlet Spider; Is it me or has Scarlet Spidey's eyes always looked like that? or are those venom-ic eyes?

Think my faves today are Mckone's Mary Marvel or Superwoman, Stegman's Nightcrawler, and Hawkman beating up the Captain

That painting of Batman of the Future/Beyond by Peter Nguyen is simply captivating. That Magneto is also simply brilliant, and although I find that Rogue appealing, I can't help but think something seems off about her legs...

I'm so impressed by how iconic Captain Marvel looks, it feels classic yet it's been established in such a short timespan. That sort of stuff is so difficult to nail.

I love Philip Tans rogue art, but Chris Giarrusso's cartoon art was pretty awsome too.

@G-Man said:

@Luthorcrow: Francavilla is a great artist. It may not be directly comic book related (even thought Obama's been in multiple comics, as pointed out) but then why not make the same argument for Denis Medri's awesome drawing on TV shows that have never been in comics?

@LordRequiem said:

Apparently a lot of artists draw the same characters. A very distinct lack of imagination.

Keep in mind, the majority of these are COMMISSIONS. That means these are characters that they're being ASKED to draw.

No, I say that simply because the empty chair thing has been part of the Republican propaganda for a while. Hell we just poor old Clint make a fool of himself with it last week. Whether other political commentary in comics tends to be more individual and at least contextualized with in a story. Alan Moore's "V for Vendetta" is clear addressing Thatchers England but it is subtle enough that it is not just a simple propaganda poster.
