Awesome Art Picks: Archangel, Batman, Batwoman and More

The coolest comic book art you won't see in comics.

Every week we gather up the best comic book art that will never appear in actual comics. The reason they won't is many artists do sketches for fun or commissions and post them on their Tumblrs, websites and blogs. Some artists even arrange commissions through their sites so be sure to check them out for more information.

Marcio Takara has been working practically non-stop doing pre-commissions for NYCC. He posted more of them on his Tumblr. The first two should look familiar only the Boom Boom piece is now inked and the Jean Grey one has some color added.

Sean Murphy posted another commission on his Deviant Art Page.

Gabriel Hardman posted this cool sketch of Thanos on his blog.

Ryan Stegman posted some more commissions on his Tumblr.

Chris Giarrusso posted a few different sketches on his website. They're available for purchase but some are already sold!

Todd Nauck is Project: ComicCon in St. Louis this weekend. He's doing his RT sketch giveaway on Twitter again. You can read about that HERE. At the con, this Wolverine sketch will be auction off to benefit Stray Rescue of St. Louis.

Brett Booth cut it close again this week, barely managing to make this week's edition. Here's a sketch of the new Lobo posted on his blog.

Terry Dodson is at Rose City Comic Con this weekend. Check out the pencils to a ACTION COMICS variant posted on his Deviant Art Page.

Dustin Nguyen is also at Rose City. There's a new chapter of BATMAN: LI'L GOTHAMS coming out Sunday featuring Poison Ivy, in the Fall. He posted an early look on his Tumblr.

Denis Medri posted a commission and a Rockabilly Batman sketch on his Deviant Art Page. There's just over a week left on the Kickstarter project he's working on. Check it out HERE.

Joel Gomez posted some sketches he did for fun on his Tumblr.

Clay Mann posted a couple pieces he did in Nashville on his Tumblr.

Daniel HDR posted some more pre-NYCC commissions on his Tumblr along with some kiddie versions he did just for fun.

Speaking of NYCC, Peter Nguyen will be there. He's still taking some pre-commissions. Check out his Tumblr for more information. Here's a couple examples:

Freddie E. Williams II posted several new sketches on his TwitPic page.

Skottie Young posted some more art on his website. They often go up for sale right away.

Michael Walsh posted a couple new pieces on his Tumblr. Galactus and Siliver Surfer was colored by Kelly Fitzpatrick.

J. Scott Campbell posted some Breaking Bad sketches on his Deviant Art Page.

Francis Manapul posted several work-in-progress pictures of this commission on his Instagram.

That's it for this week. Be sure to come back for the next installment.

Good now i hate brett booth

Hmm, thought that last one was an alternative take on the New 52 Raven. Looks great actually, but apparently it's a character from He-Man. :(

williams is growing on me. booth just stopped existing to me.

I like Marcio Takara's style, but my favorite has to be Nguyen's colored Poison Ivy. Amazing.

I think the Daniel HDR Galactus sketch was also on last week's, but in a much earlier stage. It's cool seeing it come along like that.

Wait... that's actually Lobo's new look? I thought that was a joke this whole time...

Posted by longbowhunter

God, Freddie Williams kills it every week! Those J. Scott Campbell Breaking Bad sketches are pretty rad too. Jesse and Mike especially.

Wow, I'm blown away once again by allllll the artist. Bravo. I think this is one of the better weeks in recent memory, but they're always kick ass. As for Lobo I'm not sure where they're going with this arc, I'm gonna wait & see before I pass judgment. I will say this though if they are going to reboot & the new look(guy) is gonna be him I won't be thrilled about it at all. I would prefer a happy medium between "twilight" Lobo & "standard" Lobo(which I agree did need a revamp) . The original Starlin "Dreadstar" Lobo's look is better than this new one.

Many good ones this week

Steve McNiven's Guardians of the Galaxy redesigns are such over designed garbage.

Best picture of the week. Stunning. I'm not even a Batwoman fan. The Breaking Bad stuff is great too.

Posted by teclo

I always thought Iceman had a chip on his shoulder but now I see he has a dick on his shoulder too.

Hottest pic here.

Again, fantastic line-up this week! Personally my fave here is Terry Dodson's Superman.

Takara really kicking more tail, and I really love the colors on the Batwoman piece.

The Batman commission done by Sean Murphy is wonderful.

The Lobo piece is awesome

Posted by wmwadeii

Freddie Williams II stuff is just sick. Wish he would post more to his deviantArt page so I could add them to my weekly deviantArt Picks.

That Vengeance Moth is pretty sweet.

And as much as he tends to draw cheesecake, Campbell is a darn good artist. Those Breaking Bad sketches are pretty amazing.

Wait is the guy on top Lobo or the one one the bottom?

Posted by Crimsonlord53

A Stephanie Brown batgirl very cool.

Posted by TheIncredibleSuperHulk8642

Gabriel Hardman's Thanos, Brett Booth's Lobo and Terry Dodsons Superman are all amazing some really good stuff this week.

Posted by Trodorne

I love these pictures. This just proves that Francis Manapul would be awesome for a MOTU series or even She-ra.

Awesome week, especially that Brett Booth Lobo!

I really, really dislike the new Lobo design

Posted by Jarvisjackrabbit

Brett Booth's Lobo is the BEST piece of work this week. It seems as though people are taking Lobo too seriously as a character. Booth captures the spirit of the character with a bit of trolling while reminding us that Lobo has always been a satirical character.

I really, really dislike the new Lobo design

I think it looks great.

These just get better and better each time. Love the Batwoman. Heck, love everything.

Posted by EvanTheMexiJew

Now I want Marcio Takare to be on Deadpool. Also, Booth's Lobo is rad and Stegman's Sabertooth looks brutal.

Posted by Crimsonlord53

Heck missed the fact the both madelyn(looks like her I think) and jean made the list this week.

What happened to Space Biker? Now he looks all lanky and... effeminate(?) (In comparison to old Lobo at least)

you are not suppose to like LOBO he is freakin villain!!!!

Posted by movieartman

this guy does the new lobo much better

Posted by Metron144

I really hope that new lobo is not official. He looks like an absolute pussy.

Posted by SuperBoyPrimeMa

@metron144: Depends on the story or movie, or show if animated or live. Looks like a pretty good lobo. Maybe a younger version or clone. This version of Lobo could be before he went rogue. An origin story Lobo.

Cool pieces of character art.

Sean Murphy's Batman is boss!

Posted by SuperiorScarletSpider

Like the lobo, iceman and robin. Good stuff.

Great X-Men related artwork.

Posted by HybridComics

Great artwork, makes me wish I took art in school

Posted by G_Money_Christmas

I wouldn't mind seeing Clay Mann's X-Men team in a comic. And who is the redhead on the other one he drew? It looks like Black Widow but she isn't an X-Man, or is it Jean Grey?

It also looks like Brett Booth's Lobo chopped up Nightwing.

Posted by LCazT1996

It's just a sketch to get his creative juices flowing. And unless you've read the Lobo villains month special, don't complain about the new design. Because you don't know anything about him yet.

Posted by impossibilly

Great collection (as usual) this week, @g_man! I love the sheer abundance of sketches you put up this time.

That Giarrusso Superior Spider-Man sketch cover is currently sitting in its new home in my living room. :D

Posted by DISOBEY_Finn

both the batman pics and the color batwoman pic are amazing so is the Archangel sketch

Edited by TheHeat

I loved Campbell's and Mann's pieces, but Takara's Jean was my fave.
