Marvel's "next big thing" was announced today when the publisher revealed the all-new creative team for ASTONISHING X-MEN as well as the new cast of characters that will be appearing in the upcoming book. writer Marjorie Liu and artist Mike Perkins will see their first collaboration on the series go to print starting with issue #48 in March. The team appearing in Astonishing will be very different from the current roster and will feature characters who are on Wolverine's side. While Wolverine will have a presence in the book, he won't necessarily be a main character in the title, according to X-Men editor Nick Lowe. The book's new roster will include Warbird, Northstar, Gambit, Cecilia Reyes, Iceman and Karma. Liu reveals a few details about the upcoming title, including (but not limited to) the fact that Gambit will be moving into his very own apartment.
"We all know that I love writing Gambit," Liu says. "That was a no-brainer. I feel like the universe I was writing X-23 in is the same universe I'm writing Astonishing X-Men in...In the first issue, we've got this theme of moving. Moving on, moving in. Northstar moving back to New York, he's going to be living with his boyfriend for the first time."
While there will definitely be a focus on interpersonal relationship in the upcoming ASTONISHING X-MEN series, the book won't lack it's fair share of action. The Marauders will be this team's first adversaries, and the creators stressed that they have no problem putting the heroes "through the wringer" to tell a good story.
== TEASER ==While Gambit's history with the Marauders will be mentioned in the series, it will not be the focus of the book according to Liu. When asked if X-23 will be making an appearance in the book, Liu revealed that while originally she had intended to include Laura, but that including her simply would not fit into Wolverine's vision for no kids on the battlefield.
