Artist David Finch Signs Exclusive Contract With DC

The fan-favorite artist is moving to DC.

No Caption Provided
It's safe to say that pretty much everyone loves David Finch's artwork.  He adds a certain style and amount of detail that makes his art stand apart from others'.  Pretty much whenever Marvel has a big event going (Siege, Ultimatum, Messiah Complex, etc), David Finch has been there.  That will no longer be the case.

DC has announced this morning that David Finch has signed an exclusive contract with them.  Finch will be working only at DC for "the foreseeable future."

While this news is hot off the presses, DC is not ready to announce where we can expect to see Finch's art first.  They did share Finch's thoughts on this move:

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the DC family! It feels too good to be true that I’m going to have the chance to draw some of the most dynamic, iconic, and fun characters in the business. I’ve been a DC comics fan for a very long time, so it’s a very big honor to finally have a part in their creation.”

How does this make you feel?  Are you excited over the idea of seeing Finch's work at DC or are you bummed that he will no longer be working at Marvel?

I like David Finch's work. I wish him the best, no matter where he is contractually obligated. And I wouldn't recommend that Marvelites get bummed, as it seems likely he will one day draw for Marvel again, one day. I own his X-Infernus poster, and it looks really beautiful hanging on my wall.

"

No........ the bottom line is this they pay you to do a job that will END after the job is done......this is nothing like having a REAL FULL TIME job Thus why Larson was able to work on several titles for various companies.  Ask em any of em or anyone who has tried to break in to the business EVRYONE wants a Real FULL TIME JOB not a gig........yeah they will take whatever work come their way and I am not saying there poor but they have ZERO with a captial O job security.

I saw this early this AM and the first thing that popped to my mind was, "Hhmm..awesome, hope he does some work on Batman."  His Moon Knight covers are well. lunatic.  Pun intended.

@speedlgt:  You bring up a good point and one that a lot of people may not realize.  Art supplies alone are quite a major expense, and time is also a major factor for most artists, because they usually work a "regular" job.  So having a steady gig does help alleviate a lot of things.  Granted, some artists can subsist as freelance because they have other things lined up, but when someone who is talented like David Finch gets a deal like this, I am happy to read about it.

People are saying he's hit and miss but he's a lot better than quite a few other artists who people inexplicably go ga-ga for, so I think is a great move by DC.  Will miss his Moon Knight work!

maybe not a sinking ship but when was the last time you heard anyone praising the work that Marvel is doing...most of the people I know who read Marvel are slowly dropping their titles and switching DC or Independent books

I think its good news to hear. Fans and the comic industry preach about free lance this and that because it benfits the FANS and the INDUSTRY but come on man think about it? if  you have ever tried free lance it SUCKS big time you dont really have a job you have A jobs/task but no real 9-5 steady 50, grand a year job with medical for your kids.

I feel all artists should be on exclusive contracts please give them what they need most a REAL job, they work so dam hard to just get a run on a title and then GOOD LUCK finding the next gig.

now i am not saying pay then all big money but if your good enough to get a job give at least 50 with benfits so they can make a living.
Now some one like finch I would most likely double that.

I loved his stuff at Marvel. Been a fan of his since I got back into comics. Seen some of his convention sketches, hope he works on a Batman title. He does a sick job with him.

@CATMANEXE:
I think the same thing pretty much Geoff Johns has said he has ideas for Iron Man and Mark Millar may still love to write Superman. But they are artists and it is a career that is not guaranteed to keep their bills paid so if they can get more money out of exclusive contracts then more power to them.

Im against it. i think artists should work for themselves and allow themselves
to interact with whichever company and project whenever. to me thats part of
the whole point of being an artist in life. but if he wanted the money thats his
choice.
