Anime Sci-fi Series Knights of Sidonia Comes to Netflix

The manga series comes to Netflix this July.

Netflix continues to adapt fan favorite series from the realms of comic books and manga for their streaming service. The newest property coming to streaming on July 4th is Knights of Sidonia, based on the manga series by Tsutomu Nihei. This is the first original anime series making it to the service.

The story follows the struggle of human survival amongst the monstrous shapeshifting aliens “Gauna” who all but destroyed the solar system a millennia ago and are bent on eliminating humans from existence.

Nagate Tanikaze, a low-born youth in a society of genetically engineered humans - now refugees that escaped the destruction of Earth one thousand years earlier, occupying the massive ship Sidonia. Nagate grew up living in the bottom layers of Sidonia away from civilization and raised by his now deceased grandfather. When Nagate’s talent as a pilot is revealed he becomes one of Sidonia’s elite defenders against the Guana.

The series stars Hisako Kanemoto, Aki Toyosaki, Ryota Ohsaka, Takahiro Sakurai, Aya Suzaki & Eri Kitamura. On July 4th, Knights of Sidonia will be available on Netflix in all territories.

What manga series would you like to see make their way to Neflix for an animated series?

Finally more anime on Netflix!

Hey, this is cool.

Curious though, why is this being reported? Don't recall seeing much of anything else anime-related here on the Vine. Don't get me wrong, I like anime, but it's a bit unusual is all.

Reminds me of Gundam Unicorn(THE BEST GUNDAM EVER),

@wardishy: We didn't really report on it because we had Anime Vice when we were at Whiskey Media. Our focus may be U.S. comics but this series does exist in our database and we have touched on other things in the past. And, as @fables87 said, we're finally getting more anime on Netflix. Also, this could kind of be a test to see if there is an interest around here for more.

Giant robots? I'll give it a try, I always give mecha stuff a shot.

@g_man: Well, I for one wouldn't mind if there was more of that kind of content around here. I'm a manga and anime fan so that's cool with me. And more anime on Netflix is definitely cool too.

Although, you may need to worry about stretching yourself too thin. You work hard enough as it is without trying to do even more, right? You should bully one of the others into doing some more stuff for you.

Unfortunately the author of the light novels for Kaze no Stigma passed away several years ago (just after the anime finished iirc) so it's not going to continue.

Pretty solid series though.

@fallschirmjager: thanks for the info but it takes me years to finish an anime, been on and off of those two series for the past two years. super busy working 6 days a week plus my comics always come first which is why i usually only watch one anime a year. on blue exorcist but with sailor moon coming out might have to take another break from it

you should send someone down to cover AX this week, CV coverage of AX should be a pretty good gauge of potential popularity, I doubt any other comic site will be there so it could be a beneficial draw.
