Anchorman Director To Take On 'The Boys'?

If true, could this change the tone of the film?

Up until recently, the name linked to The Boys movie was A Nightmare On Elm Street director Samuel Bayer. However, Bayer may not have the job in the bag afterall, and Anchorman and Step Brothers director Adam McKay might be the man for the job, according to Slashfilm. These directors have, in the past, focused on two very different film genres; Bayer is familiar with very dark, gritty films, while McKay has clearly mastered humor. Yet, you are not a good director unless you can do a little bit of everything, right? We caught up with The Boys artist Darick Robertson to ask him about his thoughts on the two directors, and to see which he felt was the man for the job, and whether or not their past films were a reflection of the overall tone that the respective directors might give to The Boys.

I think both guys are talented and I see the appeal if either was selected, although my understanding is that Bayer is only expressing his desire to direct the film.

It does seem that Bayer is really interested in the project, however. In fact, the director is a fan of the comic!

It’s so funny, I would die to do that comic book. From what I’ve heard from the producers on the movie is that Adam McKay is doing it. He did Anchorman, I guess. The studio is really hot on him and… Let’s have the movie [A Nightmare on Elm Street] come out this weekend and do really well. Then we’ll see how my stock is in Hollywood.

What about you guys? What do you think the direction for The Boys should be? Funny like Anchorman, or darker like Nightmare On Elm Street? Who would you like to see as the film's director?
