AMC Developing PREACHER into Television Series

Finally, a deal has been set and PREACHER will come to the small screen with writers Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg.

Looks like The Walking Dead won't be the only comic adapted television series on AMC. According to Deadline, fans are one step closer to seeing Jesse Custer on the small screen as Sony Pictures and AMC closed their long negotiations on a PREACHER television series. The show will be written and executive produced by Seth Rogan and Even Goldberg (This is the End), and Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) will be the show runner and executive producer. At this time, there are no plans for Rogan to appear in the live action series, despite speculation.

No Caption Provided

The 1995 Vertigo series, written by Garth Ennis and drawn by Steve Dillon follows reverend Jesse Custer, who fuses with the entity known as Genesis, which gives him the power of the Word of God. Jesse searches for God on quite the adventure, and the story features tons of memorable characters including the Irish vampire Cassidy, Jesse's love interest Tulip O'Hare, the mutilated serviceman to The Grail, Herr Starr, and one of the coolest cowboys in comics, The Saint of Killers. This series is a long time favorite of comic fans everywhere.

Over the course of 16 years, this property has been tried time and time again to become a series, a film, and even a mini-series. This is what Ennis had to say about the experience.

“Steve Dillon and I are very happy to see Preacher being developed for TV, which seems a much more natural home for the story than a 2-hour movie...Obviously it’s taken a while, but Ken Levin along with Neal Moritz and his team refused to give up, long after the point when I myself grew skeptical, and their unrelenting enthusiasm for the project has gotten us where we need to be. I’m particularly impressed that Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin understand Preacher fully — meaning they get it for what it is, not some vague approximation.”

No news yet on when we'll see Jesse on AMC, but rest assured, PREACHER has finally found the home it deserves, and fans can finally rejoice.

Same here , would love it. The Boys with it 90 issues series would make more sense to come as TV show instead of a 2 hour movie thats been in development hell from years

@thatguywithheadphones: See, I feel the opposite. I don't think a movie can do it justice. AMC can even go the WD route and expand it a bit.

Well not a single movie but more of trilogy but I I'd love to see it as a TV show too.

@lyrafay: already had "Grimm" and "Once upon a time" plus a spin off of "Once upon a time". (Not even mentioning the Shrek films.) Skewed fairytales are so over.

I'd rather have Y: The Last Man

I'd honestly prefer to see that as a movie rather than a show

@madeinbangladesh: I liked the concept, just not Yorick. Tbh, I never finished reading the comic cause I just couldn't get behind Yorick. To each their own.

Seth Rogen.. really? Did they not see what he did to the Green Hornet? I am going to assume the show will be loaded with pot references and stupid jokes.

There's a guy up there that's never heard of Preacher. I bet he's familiar with his Punisher. That's his most famous work if you ask me. I see where you're coming from though haha.

Yeah, I thought about making a remark about that. It's pretty baffling for a comic fan not to even heard of Preacher.

From what I've seen, he isn't familiar with his Punisher either. I'd say Preacher is more well known because he created it and you can not mention his name without it, while you could with Punisher (even though the character belongs to him after his run).

This is the moment I've been waiting for in anticipation/horror. I love Preacher more than I love most comics and have read the whole thing several times through. I've always kind of hoped it would be turned into a movie or tv show, but I'm also scared because I don't want to see the project screwed up.

Cool. Really liked Preacher, but it doesn't make my all time great list because the comedy felt too juvenile at times.

The writers seem to fit that tone though, so at they know their strengths lol

still...can't complain about Vertigo titles gettin shows.

YTLM and Transmetropolitan pls

I ain't into this sacrilegious stuff. I'll tell you what I HAVE been wanting to see AMC put to on screen is a Swamp Thing tv show.

just asked god if Preacher is sacrilege and if people shouldnt read/watch it. he didnt say anything so i guess its cool.

Sacrilege can also mean something offensive to you morally (doesn't always have to be religious). And if you've truly read the book, you'd know that there is plenty of messed up stuff in it. But way to go on outing yourself as an angry atheist.

As much as I agree with you and love Fables,it'll probably never happen. Especially on the small screen,I doubt the Fablesverse could work on TV.

I see Olyphant playing Jess but as the Saint would be interesting.

DJ Qualls as Yorick? Nah I can't see that unless she kindof gains some weaight. ANd It was suppose to be Made in film first, but BKV said that it might be coming to TV rather than Film.

You didn't like Y? whaaaaa THe series is my favorite of all time

I have mixed feelings about this. Kind of cool this is happening, love the series, but I think it would be a better fit for HBO due to their budget and a lot less restrictions. I really hope this does not get botched up.

How it is that Vertigo is getting a million chances at tv shows. I'm not complaining, simply surprised that Vertigo has managed to get it's foot in the door more solidly than the mainstream has. Still I feel a preacher tv show would do a lot better than a movie.

I really enjoyed the first 2-3 volumes, but I lost interest later on. I would prefer a series like Lucifer.

Sweet! Never read the series, heard of it but never seemed to interested me. More of a Sandman/Fables guy when it comes to Vertigo stuff. Just glad they're doing more with Vertigo stuff.

The two retards that wrote the unbelievably stupid This Is The End are writing and producing the adaptation of Preacher.

Sounds awesome.

As a wise man once said, now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go home and have a heart attack.
