AMC Developing PREACHER into Television Series

Finally, a deal has been set and PREACHER will come to the small screen with writers Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg.

Looks like The Walking Dead won't be the only comic adapted television series on AMC. According to Deadline, fans are one step closer to seeing Jesse Custer on the small screen as Sony Pictures and AMC closed their long negotiations on a PREACHER television series. The show will be written and executive produced by Seth Rogan and Even Goldberg (This is the End), and Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) will be the show runner and executive producer. At this time, there are no plans for Rogan to appear in the live action series, despite speculation.

The 1995 Vertigo series, written by Garth Ennis and drawn by Steve Dillon follows reverend Jesse Custer, who fuses with the entity known as Genesis, which gives him the power of the Word of God. Jesse searches for God on quite the adventure, and the story features tons of memorable characters including the Irish vampire Cassidy, Jesse's love interest Tulip O'Hare, the mutilated serviceman to The Grail, Herr Starr, and one of the coolest cowboys in comics, The Saint of Killers. This series is a long time favorite of comic fans everywhere.

Over the course of 16 years, this property has been tried time and time again to become a series, a film, and even a mini-series. This is what Ennis had to say about the experience.

“Steve Dillon and I are very happy to see Preacher being developed for TV, which seems a much more natural home for the story than a 2-hour movie...Obviously it’s taken a while, but Ken Levin along with Neal Moritz and his team refused to give up, long after the point when I myself grew skeptical, and their unrelenting enthusiasm for the project has gotten us where we need to be. I’m particularly impressed that Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin understand Preacher fully — meaning they get it for what it is, not some vague approximation.”

No news yet on when we'll see Jesse on AMC, but rest assured, PREACHER has finally found the home it deserves, and fans can finally rejoice.

Seth Rogen.. really? Did they not see what he did to the Green Hornet? I am going to assume the show will be loaded with pot references and stupid jokes.

@madeinbangladesh: I liked the concept, just not Yorick. Tbh, I never finished reading the comic cause I just couldn't get behind Yorick. To each their own.

I'd rather have Y: The Last Man

I'd honestly prefer to see that as a movie rather than a show

@lyrafay: already had "Grimm" and "Once upon a time" plus a spin off of "Once upon a time". (Not even mentioning the Shrek films.) Skewed fairytales are so over.

@thatguywithheadphones: See, I feel the opposite. I don't think a movie can do it justice. AMC can even go the WD route and expand it a bit.

Well not a single movie but more of trilogy but I I'd love to see it as a TV show too.

Now lets get The Boys a tv show on HBO.

This would be spectacular.

Same here , would love it. The Boys with it 90 issues series would make more sense to come as TV show instead of a 2 hour movie thats been in development hell from years
