Actor Jamie Foxx Set To Play Electro In 'Amazing Spider-Man' Sequel

Foxx seems to have signed on for the next 'Amazing Spider-Man' film.

Although there has been no official announcement made by the Amazing Spider-Man camp, actor Jamie Foxx apparently confirmed he'll be playing Electro in the sequel to Amazing Spider-Man movie. Foxx is definitely excited for the role. Entertainment Tonight recently spoke to Foxx regarding a meeting he recently had with Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb and actor Andrew Garfield.

No Caption Provided

"I think Electro will be an exciting character to play because he's a ... genius electrician-type person, and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world, and the next thing you know he turns it on."

The word around town is that Foxx has indeed signed on for the sequel to Amazing Spider-Man and that he will be playing Electro. This little rumor may also have been fueled by the fact that Foxx dressed up as Electro for Halloween. Coincidence? We think likely not. Foxx would be an interesting addition to the Amazing Spider-Man sequel, and considering he recently sat down with the Amazing Spider-Man director and the man who plays Peter Parker, it seems he's definitely signed on for the sequel and there's a good chance the actor might be making his way as the next Spidey villain.

It's interesting that Foxx has 'confirmed' he has the role but director Marc Webb hasn't said anything besides his Tweet yesterday about the casting of Harry Osborn.

What do you think of the possibility of Jamie Foxx playing Electro in the upcoming movie? Let us know in the comments below.

@ YoungJustice Sadly that is IMO not the case. I think there is still a lot of discrimination all over the world. It is now a lot more hidden than it used to be, because it is taboo to be racist. Some employers don’t want to hire colored people. Officially they can hire the white person because they think he is more qualified. Not to mention the problem many have problem with immigrants from Latin America. It seems many Americans have forgotten that they immigrated to the US from Europe because their religion was hatred on and later on because of huge hunger problems in Europe.

Foxx isn't a bad actor, but I never really pictured him as a comicbook character, but it seems like one of those things where you have to wait til set photos or trailers pop up which is waaay into the future to really judge this casting move.

Too early to call it, but i think we can expect a Heath Ledger level of performance out of Jaime. On a sadder not if Jaime nails this performance, expect Marvel to change 616 Electro into a black man a few months after the movie debuts

Electro Cool. I want to see 1610 Venom so that it may then lead to Carnage. 1610 would be a good lead in without being too similar to the previous venom. I just demand Carnage. He'd make a terrifying villain.

The first comic I ever read was Electro's first appearance in Spider-Man, so the character has always had a special place in my heart.

And with that being said: No.

I really like Jamie Foxx, I dunno if I would've made him Electro though. For the second movie (regardless of actor) I would've liked to see Scorpion, Chameleon, or maybe even Doc Ock again. I think Foxx would've been a good choice for Scorpion or Chameleon, so I'll like to see his take on a character I've always thought of as (dare I say) a little silly.

I real don't get why so many black actors are taking the role of white roles. IMO it is a way to feel pity towards black people. IMO it’s a way to give something that is not natural to the role. This kind of positive discrimination does not give more freedom or more equality. On the long run it can just give more problems to pity somebody because they have a sergeant gender or race. Other race can become angry or jealous for instance Latin or Asian people could feel they were overlooked. The black people could feel the just got sergeant rights because the white people feel ashamed about their pass actions. Not that Electro needs to be white I just don’t see the reason for him to be played by a black person. I think it is funny that if a white person plays a minority group it would be so wrong, but if a minority group play the role of white person it is ok. You could say that if many white characters are played by minority groups the characters which have a significant minority identity somehow gets devaluated. If characters that before represent a sergeant group then why do we need that character when blacks can play a white role anyway. IMO you should stay more true to the character, for me it’s less real. Of cause the movie has its own universe and own reality I just don’t see the need for this change.

How important is race to Electro? It's not, at all. He auditioned, Webb thought he was a good pick, and he got the role.

It isn't sympathy, it's the fact that he is a critically acclaimed actor, who went for the role of a movie Supervillain.

At least Heimdall is a Norse god, there weren't many black Vikings, so that argument at least had weight behind it. I see absolutely no point as to why him being black takes away from the character, when it's so unimportant to the character.

Skin color to the character u love isn't important? It's like Batman being black or Superman. Seriously, stop with the bs.

Y'all know damn well the fact that he's black makes this something to talk about. If it would have been a white guy THIS WOULD NOT EVEN BE NEWS. Therefore I feel the need to school you on this Affirmative Action situation as it relates to comics/comic movies. Someone once asked me "you have Black Entertainment Television (owned by Viacom now BTW so they could change it to something else if they wanted), why is there no 'White Entertainment Television?'" I said "There is. The other 399 channels." If you TRULY see America the way it is going to be in the future then you understand why we need all types of demographics in media. If you are holding on to 1950 then this changing landscape scares the s*** out of you. And for what? What are traditionalists holding on to? They are holding on to the idea that men are above women, whites are above other races, and adults are above kids. This ideal is dying. We all have to start with our feet on the same starting line and we all have to wait for the starter pistol to go off before we start running. Sorry those of you who think you should go to the front of the line just because of your pedigree. That time is ending. Diverse COMIC BOOK CHARACTERS (

Truthfully as of late, I'm not really happy with the casting at all. I don't understand the precedence of Electro being played by a black actor, not being racist, but Electro is not black. Also, I don't like Jamie Foxx, as an actor, not because he's back :O I don't like Dan Deehan as playing Harry because he's not that great of an actor in my opinion. He doesn't have the necessary screen time and maybe, its because i'm subconsciously placing him on a pedestal with James Franco. I never liked him in Chronicle (mostly because of the character he portrayed, not him per say) and he's no James Franco, neither in acting talent nor good looks. Also I'm weary of Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane. Her only major acting gig was leading role of ABC's drama, Secret Life of An American Teenager, which is getting cancelled, doesn't really, to me at least, make her qualified for such a big role, though Mary Jane's role will be minor in Spider-Man 2. Don't want to sound too shallow, but physical appearance does play a large role in movies, and I feel as though these choices fail to represent these characters in the fullest. Not trying to say you need a gorgeous cast to play every role, but when I think of Mary Jane and Harry Osborn, their faces don't come to mind. Once again, it might be because I'm subconsciously rating her against Kirsten Dunst. Who I thought portrayed Mary Jane's spunk and personality brilliantly. However, honestly speaking, it's most likely that I'm afraid that these actors won't be able to fill the shoes which Dunst and Franco left behind. I know these characters are supposed to different and new, that's the point of a remake, but I fear they won't live up to expectations, at least to mines.

I find it interesting that in 2012 that people are still using language like "colored". Also, why its even a big deal. You would think that fans would WANT accomplished actors in pivotal roles. Now "fans" wabt to exclude accomplished actors because it is inconsistent with the origins of a second tier character. If you adhere to this type of thinking, you are pretty much eliminating any possible non-white character for any roles. Think about it. Prior to the 70s, probably 95%+ of all comic characters were white. The 70s had an "surge" of characters but the surge is barely 10-20 charcaters such as Cage, Blade, Black Lightning, Falcon, Black Goliath, and a few others. Now fast forward to the present, it is safe to say that at least 70- 80% of characters are white, but comic writers are trying to make a world that is more representaive of the real world( and the fans going to pay money to see this movie). Its a shame that ppl have issues with that.

And for the record, Electro original (if unchanged) origin was that he was smart and had potential to be an engineer but his mother steered him to be an electrian because she underestimated his intelligence and told him to get a safe career. So Foxx statement re Electro is not far off

Yeah, I mean look at how terrible Ultimate Spider-man is now that he's black. It's not like it's one of Marvel's best books or anything.

Also, Love Electro, and am totally stoked for Jamie Foxx to play him.

@ VeganDiet. There is a difference between a character being black and take a former white persons costume and let a character changes color. Two different scenarios which you can’ real compare.

So you basically mean you can turn every whit character into a black character and you can tur none single black character into a white character? This is wrong morally imo. It seems like you want to make white being the right thing and an upgrade and being a black superhero is something a white character can do.. It feels like Marvel think there isn’t enough black characters they can use in the movie and therefore have to change the color. Why not instead take some of Marvel black characters and use the for instance Robbie. This more tells me the lack of black superheroes/villains in the universe in general (DC is not better for that matter).Without any prove it seems like there is a huge lack of black people living in comics (not to mention Asian and Hispanic). Electro might seems unimportant but other characters is for me more white than black. For instance both Batman/Bruce Wayne and Green Arrow stand for me to represent the upper white class elite. They do want to make a difference, but none the less that is their upbringing. But I assuming you could change this as well? The King Pin has some of the same appeal to me. Now Duncan did a good actor performance like he always do but he just didn’t come on to me as King Pin but more like a black gang leader (not in a street like way). The only character I can think of at the moment could change color would be Wonder Woman. It could be interesting to let her be played by an Asian or Arabic actor. That will probably not happen. Again it is more the trend than this specific case, I don’t see the need for the change it just seem unnecessary.

But as long as Jamie is a great actor.

If they made him like ultimate electro,It wouldn't really matter.

And if Jamie nails,or even perfects the role, all the better.

Besides the annoying organizations,I don't think much/most/half black people would even care if a white character played a black one.Although the same can be said for white people as well, except they don't really have those annoying organizations. But Jamie should do great, although I think that those black people should see how much latin people there are in comics.

You know what,I change my thought....I don't care.

Frankly, this seems to be some sort of thing where people fill in lies in their head such as,if it were a white person to play a black person, black people (or people in general) would flip.

That isn't true,to just be short,and simple:

It's definitely not that black/white (pun intended).

In fact,it's not like as we make it seem at all.I've just accumulated a new-found respect for Jamie Foxx,he's gonna perfect this role.
