A Young Ra's al-Ghul in the Dark Knight Rises?

Ra's returns? Really?

 Embrace your fear!
 Embrace your fear!

A young Ra’s al-Ghul in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES? That’s what THR says we can expect in their report that Josh Pence of THE SOCIAL NETWORK and the upcoming BATTLESHIP has been cast for that specific part. Supposedly, there will be a some flashback portions showing events that happen 30 years prior to the plot. If that is, indeed, the case, it would fit well with the rumors of Marion Cotillard playing Talia and Gary Oldman’s cryptic comments about the plot coming “full circle” in this third flick.

Christopher Nolan and his team have won the benefit of any doubt. Most assuredly. However, if this does play out… I don’t know. I kind of preferred the League of Shadows business tied up in the second so the focus could be put on super criminals who were totally unrelated to Bats’ origin. Blood feuds make for great origin stories, sure, but there’s something a bit more exciting about your hero butting heads with dangerous total strangers. Were this to go forward, of course, I could easily see Bane being presented as agent of the League vying for Talia’s affections like he did in some latter storylines in the comics.

We’ve still yet to see a confirmation about who Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s playing, of course. Would you want him to be Holiday? I could see him as Black Mask or a Bullock-esque super cop with equal credibility.

Perhaps the last movie will bring it full circle, with a look into the past of Ras al Ghul, maybe his connection to Bruce's parents.  And maybe Bane and Catwoman and others will have strong ties to the League of assassins like Scarecrow did in the first film.  Maybe it will try to bookend itself.

yeahhhhh... that's not really how Nolan seems to enjoy approaching these movies.

Not superpowered crazies with a gimmick.  It's about psychotic killers, drug dealers, and the mob.

Flashback works too bad they couldn't get Liam Niason to return for just a 10 minute spot.

Flashback to what? Ra's is close to 500 years old I thought, are they going back that far when he found the pit? "

Obviously i dont know the exact nature of the flashback but it's been reported as being set around 30 years in to the past.It can easily be used to explain both Bane and Talia's backstory in a single scoop.

Well Christopher Nolan is basically the greatest living director today in my opinion, so anything he says is gonna be great, he could even say something stupid like Rob Schneider is gonna be a villain in this movie and I would know deep in my heart that Christopher was doing something good.

I'm not saying Rob Schneider should be a villain though, dear god NO!!!

This is just nerd fantasy, but it would entertaining to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Dick Grayson in a future sequence prowling the rooftops of Gotham as a high-ranking agent of Batman Inc. (formerly the League of Shadows). But casting the former 3rd Rock from the Sun wonderboy as Holiday sounds more sensible.

I could see Stana Katic as talia, then again, I could see Eva Green in the part too.  Either way I'm going to see it, as well as every other whiney fan boy.

I agree, Marion Cottiliard is not near exotic enough to play Talia, this would be a horrible cast!!!

On March 19, 2011, it was confirmed by Variety that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is cast in an unknown role and Nolan plans to keep his personality a secret for as long as possible. Gordon-Levitt has since confirmed that he is going to play Alberto Falcone.

@danhimself: Ken Watanabe i presume, and hahahahaha!

I think Rha's is like batman's most powerful enemy/arch nemesis. they are now RELATED through Damien. Denis O'Neil was like the BEST Batman writer. And Batman says it all the time, that he is. The Joker is theatrical and entertaining, but seriously? Obviously Nolan has no taste for the dramatic and has summed up characters from Keaton's "Batman" and Val Kilmer's "Batman Forever", both of which were....almost shakespearean stage dramas, (i love Keaton, best batman ever, and i like Chris O'Donnel) in a very different way from what they had in those oldies. What he wants is Batman's serious side. Rha's is great for that. Well some catwoman would be neat too. Considering what was done with Joker, i wonder what he'd do with the cat.

You know who'd make a better Talia? the chick that will voice Cheetara, was in Entourage as E's on and off girlfriend. Bane and Talia would make sense appearing together. Catwoman really has no connection with anyone as i see it, except with Penguin, they both are themed after some animal, cats hate birds, appeared together in a couple cartoon episodes and were in that movie together, (but they're just a part of the Rogue's gallery coorperation which features combinations of different members all the time) But Catwoman and Bane? i dont see ANYTHING they have to do with eachother

Introduced as an antagonist to Bats (perhaps groomed by Ra's to take over after his death),that later takes up the role of a more realistic Robin (that being the hallmark of the series). And yes, I know that Damian in the comics is barely a teenager, and that the timeline I've suggested is completely insane since Batman Begins takes place right after Bruce leaves the League. But that is the beauty of movies; timeline continuity is just a minor problem to resolve. Who knows how much time will have passed by DKR? Damian has the necessary connections to the league of Shadows, and could provide an interesting foil to Bruce. The back story between Talia and Bruce could be fleshed out in flashbacks; with Damian's existence kept from Bruce after his abrupt departure. Perhaps we will see the inclusion of Ra's Lazarus Pits ( or some equivalent tech), to help age Damian to maturity after Ra's untimely death, and explain how Bane survives his initial venom treatments. This might also explain Bane as an agent of a renewed League of Shadows. Like I said, just trying to think out of the box. "

There's that whole thing that if you put too many characters from a comic in a movie, it hits critical mass and gets a bit crap.  I'd really hate the 'full circle' comments to be alluding to something silly like Ra's being indirectly responsible for the murder of the Waynes.

To be fair, it would be a bit strange to have a younger version of the same character from the same universe be of a different race.

Sounds good to me! He looks like a young Lieam Neesen for sure.
I do not think there are to many villains at all, TDK had: Joker, Two-face, Maroni, Gamble, That Guy with the dogs, the accountant and Scarecrow. turned out great.
this one has :Bane, Catwoman, Talia, and Alberto Falcone.
Ra's will be a flashback showing the origin of talia and probably him training Bane or something, meaning he wont be a badguy for batman to fight in this, and Catwoman will prob turn to be a good guy. In Nolan I trust! I remember people bitching that there will be too many badguys in TDK, so everyone should relax and let it happen. What pisses me off is the inevitable reboot after this movie which is just stupid. Should just keep the movies going!

I hope the curse of three doesn't go to the Batman films. I mean I really wanted to watch Spiderman three. But utter disappointment on that end.  I mean there are several villains in the this film as well. Too much for one film. Of course I could be wrong about Catwoman, she'll probably be a hero at the end of the film. But Talia, Bane, and the Holiday Killer (I know he might not be the holiday killer, but I forgot his real name) . So the League of Shadows, The Mob, and Bane after Batman. Too much stuff is going on. I hope it ends well. I have faith in you Nolan. Don't disappoint.

@danhimself: I actually got the impression that as far as the Nolan movies go it was more of a title to be passed on which would in a purely metaphorical sense make Ra's Al Ghul immortal but thats pure speculation on my part
