A Sandman TV Show?

WB's TV division wants the creator of SUPERNATURAL to do it, reportedly.

So you might've heard that talks have resurfaced about Neil Gaiman’s seminal series, SANDMAN, becoming a TV show. According to the Hollywood Reporter, WBTV's been talking to some writer-producers about helming such a series (though they’re still working on getting the rights from DC Entertainment.) SUPERNATURAL creator Eric Kripke is reportedly their top choice, though he’s cautious about taking the job since he knows that the, shall we say, enthusiastic members of the comics' fanbase are going to scrutinize every single creative decision he’ll be making. Gaiman isn’t involved with any of this, at the moment, but I’m sure that’ll change if it goes forward. I haven’t watched a single episode of SUPERNATURAL, but I know that show’s fanbase is probably as enthusiastic as SANDMAN’s is.

If you’re thinking that Morpheus and his world would fare better on a channel like HBO (instead of the CW) DCE's already ahead of you. They were actually talking to HBO a few months ago about doing a SANDMAN show with 3:10 TO YUMA director James Mangold leading it but, as you might’ve guessed, they ultimately couldn’t get it to come together. There’ve also been several attempts to make a SANDMAN movie over the years, with talents like Roger Avary (PULP FICTION, BEOWULF) and Akiva Goldsman (BATMAN FOREVER, I AM LEGEND) taking stabs at the property with varying degrees of artistic license. == TEASER ==

I always figured that SANDMAN was far too subtle and literary to do as any kind of movie or TV show, least of all on a major network. I could see DC's brand of direct-to-DVD animated features working for, say, an adaptation of THE DOLL'S HOUSE, though. Actually, DEATH: THE HIGH COST OF LIVING would probably be the easiest one to translate. Remember when Gaiman was angling to direct a movie version of it?

Either way, this talk necessitates (as all comics-to-movie talk does) a fantasy casting. Who would you Comic Vine maniacs want to see play Morpheus? What about Death? Cast the whole line-up of the Endless!
