3 More X-Men Confirmed For 'Days of Future Past' Movie

The director announces a trio of characters that'll return to the roster! Come find out if it's one of your favorites!

X-Men: Days of Future Past is turning out to be one big reunion movie for the original X-Men crew. Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) has hinted about returning and both Ian McKellen (Magneto) and Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier) are confirmed. Now we can add 3 more names to the list thanks to director Bryan Singer: Anna Paquin (Rogue), Shawn Ashmore (Iceman), and Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde).

No Caption Provided

Are you happy to see these characters from the original trilogy return and is there anyone else you'd want to see come back? I'm rooting for Colossus. It's fitting since he was in the source material and barely had any screen time in the original trilogy. Also, what new characters would you want to see in this one?

X-Men: Days of Future Past will hit theaters in 2014.

@jstarzyk:

It does, they just happen to be using a lot of characters from the previous films.

Sure he looked cool as Colossus, and the graphics for him would probably look way better in 2014 than it did in the 3rd movie. I guess it would be cool :P

Anyways wasn't Rogue cured? Or will the cure wear off like it did to Magneto?

I still remember people freaking out in the second movie when Colossus showed up. Dude's got screen pop.

I keep wondering wheather this movie will actually be like Days of the Future Past or All-New X-Men. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

The fact that Singer "thanks" Bret Ratner in his tweet suggests that the film takes place after X3... Not all hope is lost that they wont retcon X3 though.

but even if they don't... not all the damage done need be permanent.

Prof X - He does live, just in someone else's body for now.

Cyclops - We don't ACTUALLY SEE him die.

Depowered Mutants; Magneto, Rogue, Mystique - The final scene in X3 seems to suggest Magneto's powers might be returning, so perhaps the "cure" won't last

Jean Grey - Uhm... yeah... unlike Cyclops, her onscreen death was rather in our faces. But you know... its Jean Grey! dying and coming back to life is part of who she is.

I didn't like Ellen Page as Kitty. I didn't like any of the young x-men, they made them look really dumb. Anna Paquin was too "nice" as Rogue and Bobby was pathetic. And why did they make Kitty look like she had greasy hair throughout X3?! They will probably only have a tiny role in the new movie anyway. I hope. They created a dumb love triangle in the last movie -_- I really love Kitty, but they don't do her justice in the movie. She can be a real kick-ass fighter and is one of the most witty characters there is. But I guess thats hollywood for you. They don't actually go by the comics.

@TheSwordsman: There are more black mutants portrayed well in the comics then there are Avengers. In fact I'd say the X-Men are one of the most ethnically diverse teams in comics. It's just that the movies so far have focused on the earliest X-Men from the comics which were mainly Caucasian.

While there are more in the x-men rather than the Avengers there are still not enough in comic books in general and definitely not in superhero movies nor ones that have their own movies.

Earliest x-men and mutants huh? huh? Rogue? Pyro? Kitty Pryde? Mystique? Havok? These were hardly the earliest ones. not even close Nor were the villains the earliest ones: Azazel, Sebastian Shaw, Generic whirlwind guy, Emma frost? These are hardly early villains such as Magneto was. Your argument is invalid. With the exception of Storm and Darwin, who was the most interesting power-wise and they killed him off with something that he should have been able to easily adapt to, there were no other black heroes or villains. And why kill him off? He handled Havocs other blasts just fine: internal armor, absorbing the energy, expelling it, turning to Adamantium, there were so many ways he could have and should have survived. They chose to have all whites except for one woman and one they killed off early because of bigotry, blatant attempts at social engineering and insecurity. Period. Trying to pretend that it is anything else at this point is simply ludicrous.

Comic books and comic book movies are a business. There aren't many comic book movies with black protagonists because there aren't that many solo comic books with black protagonists that last very long. You think there should be more in comics but it's not like comic book creators don't try. And studios aren't going to take a risk on a character with a solo movie that can't carry a solo book. I have faith that there will be a Black Panther movie in Marvel's phase 3 but they kinda needed to establish the universe before showing a technologically advanced hidden African nation built on an alien metal.

I didn't say earliest mutants and I'm not talking about villains, just earliest X-Men. The original five have all been portrayed in the four movies. Havok who joined shortly after was also featured in a movie. Of the Deadly Genesis team of four they chose the one black character Darwin who's whole purpose in the comics was to die so you can't really complain about him dying in the movie. If they had brought him back in First Class it would have just removed some of the threat for the climax of the movie. If they want to use him in Days of Future Past they'll bring him back. Of the 2nd true class of X-Men they used Wolverine in 5 movies (kinds), Storm in three movies, Colossus in two (barely), and Nightcrawler and Banshee in one each. The ones they haven't used are Polaris, Petra, Vulcan, Sway, Thunderbird, and Sunfire; three of which are Caucasian, one Native American and two Asian. I'd say if anything they are missing some Asian X-Men.

The next person to be recruited into the X-Men in the comics was Kitty Pryde who had cameos in two movies and was featured in the third. Shortly after Kitty joined Rogue was brought to the school as well who was featured in three movies. So yes I still say the characters they've used in the movies were some of the earliest X-Men along with some of the most popular. And what is the only character from the 2000's they added to First Class? Angel Salvadore, another black character. I still say from the available characters they've used a greater number of black characters.

As for villains other than Magneto and the Brotherhood the villains from the first run of X-Men were terrible. It was the villains from the late 70's to early 80's that were the first well written X-Men villains including Sebastian Shaw and Emma Frost.

If you think there is an under-representation of black characters in comics and movies you're going to have to become a comic book writer and try to create some lasting ones. However I feel trying to create more black mutants just to have more black mutant characters they won't be memorable.

To all posters that quoted of me, oh wow! I didn't know that about Rogue. My bad. Seriously, for the whole time, I thought she could fly on herself once she gained the ability of some kind of power within her. I must've missed a lot of her actual origin story in the comic books.

Anna Paquin does not suck. The way they wrote Rogue in the film sucked. She's a really good actress and if this films Rogue is written better I can totally see Anna Paquin turning the character into a bad ass. Let's hope that the cure has worn off and she gets her power boost.

I also wasn't a fan of Ellen Page as Kitty, it just doesn't seem to be a good match for me. I'm glad that we wont see JJ in the movie though. Was not a fan of her as Emma Frost. Lets hope to see Jean and Scott back though!

@TheSwordsman: I am in total agreement.

The x-men come off in many ways as a white boys fantasy about oppression but under the umbrella of being a mutant. Even though the stories take so much from the struggles and stories of minorities, the majority of X-men have been white for 50 years now. And the few minorities that have been sprinkled in have been great but sadly not enough. If it wasn't for Storm and then Bishop and younger teams like the New Mutants and Generation X we would have no diversity in the X-men. After all they killed off the Native American Thunderbird and banished the Japanese Sunfire so that only white men and one blue dude remained. They even have a white British psychic in the body of Japanese ninja. why is it so hard for writers just to include real people of colour on the team?!

The least the X-men movies can do is modernize and adapt the story of the movies to include diversity on the X-men. So far they have killed off Darwin that should be able to survive anything, turned Angel Salvadore evil, and had Riptide (tornado guy) say nothing because of, i assume, his Spanish accent. So if X-men Days of Future Past wants to make everyone happy they can bring back those three characters and give the X-men their first X-woman, with Storm. They can hire an actress to play a young Ororo and help counteract the white male dominance and redeem the characters since she never was given her rightful do in any of the movies. Now i am pretty sure, Halle Berry will come back to play her future self. So i hope they are saving her return until they find a young Storm to announce as well.

They don''t put the best artists and writer in tandem on black characters.

They didn't need to establish the universe before creating a successful Thor movie and they won't need to in order to sell a black panther movie if the put the same effort into marketing and get the best writers and directors.

Havok did not join the x-men shortly after. Havoks whole purpose in the comics was not to die in the first part of the first issue in which he debut so your analogy is moot. They could have made just as good a climax with Darwin and the fight scenes would have been much more interesting as the X-men that were left and remained good should have been easily defeated by the evil brotherhood. They simply chose to write the script so they were not just as they could have wrote the script to where them fighting Darwin was a good fight and not a stomp in Darwins favor. Yes. Angel Salvadore is black and they Hired a black woman to play her but in the end the one black male died early on and for no good reason and the black girl became a villain. And it looks like the cast of futures past will be all white.

They don't hire black writers nor black artists with the exception of a very, very, few. 99% of the writers and artists are white. And there are very interesting ethnic characters that could be very successful if they put as much effort into them that they do the white ones One can create memorable and interesting mutants of any pigment. They simply made a choice to create nearly all white ones, "just because they were white".

Anyway, this is a pointless discussion as you are abject pretending that bigotry in the industry doesn't exist and are rationalizing their blatant actions to prevent diversity. As I have said many times before: If the characters in comics were nearly all black with one or two token whites you would not like it and would be vocal about it. You simply are choosing to eschew any such empathy for others who have to deal with it. Goodbye.

Thank you very much. I agree with you also whole-heartedly with everything you typed and actually stated the same things about Darwin and Angel and Stan lee himself stated that the X-men were a metaphor for minorities and the civil rights movement. You're right, they don't treat other ethnicities in the same way that they do white characters.

People just want to try to convince others that bigotry is not heavily involved when they know in their hearts that it is.

@Silver_Raven: I seem to remember that there is a glimpse of a white-haired black girl when Xavier first uses Cerebro (I think she's writing in a notebook or something). This could easily be a young Storm.

I agree whole-heartedly with your evaluation. They really need to bring more diversity into the x-men. For a comic which is so often used as a metaphor for the alienation of minorities, they seem to be a surprisingly homogenous group. Ideally, I'd love to see characters like Storm, Northstar, and Dust getting more screen-time. Even adding someone like Jubilee (who I'm not a fan of for several reasons) would help things along.

Of course, that's not to say that they should have characters in the film just for the sake of adding some diversity; they need to actually play a role in the film. I don't see why Marvel insists on making Nick Fury black in order to add diversity to the Avengers etc., rather than just using established minority characters in the first place.

Why do so many people care if Colossus is in this flick?

Don't get me wrong, I love Colossus, but he wasn't very important to the movies or in the Days of Future Past comic, really.

Goodbye.

“Attempting to debate with a person who has abandoned reason is like giving medicine to the dead.”― Thomas Paine

"A closed mind is like a closed book; just a block of wood"---Chinese proverb

Thor is a much better known character than Black Panther and Norse mythology is one of the most commonly known mythologies probably only beaten by Greek mythology.

Havok was one of the first recruits to the X-Men. He joined after Polaris but before the Deadly Genesis team and way before the All-New X-Men that featured the likes of Wolverine and Storm. Darwin along with the other members of the Deadly Genesis team were actually created in order to die so they could transfer their powers to Vulcan making him a threat to a whole team of X-Men. Darwin then came back after that. Them temporarily killing off a character who can be immortal is the best way to do that rather than killing a character that can't possibly come back. Killing Darwin gave them a reason to leave the government and set up at Xavier's mansion which is kinda crucial to the forming of the X-Men. It also gave them the drive to train much harder to master their powers. And this way he can conceivably come back, it wouldn't be so easy to bring Banshee or Havok back to life.

I don't mean that Kitty Pryde came from the early days of the X-Men comics but she was one of the early recruits. Meaning of the 100 or so people who have been X-Men she was #20 (if you don't count the Deadly Genesis team because they were a retcon then she was #16) I'm not counting Mimic because he blackmailed them to join and I'm not counting Changeling because he was just a retcon to get around them killing off Xavier. In order they were:

  • Professor Xavier: Featured in the movies.
  • Cyclops. Featured in the movies
  • Jean Grey. Featured in the movies
  • Beast. Featured in the movies
  • Angel. Featured in the movies
  • Iceman. Featured in the movies
  • Polaris.
  • Havok. Featured in the movies
  • Petra.
  • Sway
  • Darwin. Featured in the movies
  • Vulcan
  • Nightcrawler. Featured in the movies
  • Wolverine. Featured in the movies
  • Banshee. Featured in the movies
  • Storm. Featured in the movies
  • Sunfire.
  • Colossus.Featured in the movies
  • Thunderbird
  • Kitty Pryde. Featured in the movies
  • Rogue. Featured in the movies.

Yes the majority of those are white characters but it makes more sense for them to be prominently featured in the X-Men movies rather than just shoe-horning in later characters because of ethnicity. The comments about my 'premise being erroneous' and ''owning my mistake' can be left out of the argument thank you.

Now as for Angel Salvadore joining the bad guys that is something that her character actually did in the comics so I think her joining up with Sebastian Shaw is actually in character. She has been abused and mistreated so she sides with who she believes is the strongest.

I have no comment on this anti-black character conspiracy you seem to have concocted. I know that in the early days of Marvel comics which were the 60's and 70's it was probably impossible for a black writer or artist to get work. I however don't believe that the current writers and artists have personal vendettas against black characters. They write what sells and they use the past 50 years of characters to do it while introducing a few new ones as they go. Any writer who has an idea for a new character and chooses to make them white instead of black or some other ethnicity is not doing it to be malicious. Many of the X-Men are white but there is also quite a variety of nationalities which can be as differentiating as skin tone.

I am not pretending bigotry doesn't exist, I just don't think these creative choices by dozens of writers and artists over decades is as blatant racism and attempts to prevent diversity as you seem to. Finishing off with personal attacks saying that I'd be upset if the majority of comic book characters were black and putting in quotes inferring that I've abandoned reason and my mind is closed because I don't agree with you is just childish.

I hope these characters have only small roles...First Class was so much better than the first three X-men movies...I would be careful when sampling from bad movies...(Yes I know that it will probably make a ton of money no matter how good the movie is.) I hope I am wrong.

I remain optimistic. We've seen time travel used to retcon movies, and I can only assume that that's where they're going with this. I mean the whole purpose of Days of Future Past was to change the past for a better future right?

I like Ellen Paige and Shawn Ashmore but Anna Paquin kind of sucked and doesn't look like Rogue. They need to get all new actors and play out their characters to where Iceman is funny and lighthearted and where Rogue is a confident southern belle.

I hope they use this movie to repair the continuity errors between all the movies.

I think having Kitty Pryde is pretty much a must if they plan on sticking at all to the source material, since Kitty was an integral part of the story line. It would also be cool to have the Wolverine/Collossus/Storm doomed assault on Sentinel central...though honestly...except for seeing that Sentinal blasting all the meat off of Wolverine's bones would be the bomb, I SUPPOSE any other group of mutants with him would do, though I'm with most other people...Collossus would be great.

Why do so many people care if Colossus is in this flick?

Don't get me wrong, I love Colossus, but he wasn't very important to the movies or in the Days of Future Past comic, really.

I'm pretty sure he was her husband in that reality. Plus he was one of four mutants left. Why shouldn't he be included?

I really do support this movie but Rogue, Iceman, and Kitty couldn't possibly be more boring in the Movieverse.

Can we in a way retcon Rogue? Please I honestly hated Rogue that was more a hindrance to the X-men more then anything. She has her moments where she is withdrawn from the team, but she proves herself time and again. The only thing Rogue did for the movies was drain Magneto in the first film. She is worth so much more then that. Plus more Shadow Cat please and thank you.

The last three choices Iceman, Rogue, and Kitty were awful; neither one of them are good at portraying those characters. And I thought Rogue was cured of the mutant gene; are we just going to pretend that storyline didn't happen.

Maybe the future they portray in this movie will be completely different from the events of the first X-Men trilogy because someone has already altered the timeline. That way Cyclops, Xavier and Jean can still be around without needing too much explanation. They try to send someone back to correct things but they find out how things went in the other timeline (Jean going evil, killing Scott and Xavier) and so they alter their plan to change things again which can allow completely different things to occur.

He was, and I wasn't saying he shouldn't be included, just that he's a pretty minor character. There are like twenty mutants in the original story, and he might have the least speaking parts of any of them. Well, no, probably Avalanche, I'm just saying he wouldn't make or break it for me.

By the look of the comments, everyone wants the entire original cast back, lol.

I for one am glad to see all the originals! :)

Oh, and it'd be cool to see Nightcrawler come back. Definitely.
