Archie has Married Veronica.
Just got done reading this with my daughter and she rated it a 4.5 out of 5. Here we are, at a point in a comic that I didn't think would ever happen... Archie asking somebody to marry them. I think my young daughter was impressed by the proposal. My wife and I never talked to her about what happens when a boy proposes to a girl. It made for some interesting conversation. And a few giggles from my daughter.
Anyway, back to the comic. Archie has some choices thrust upon him, he's facing growing up and everybody leaving Riverdale. I would think this would bring back memories for a lot of us. It's graduation time, we are faced with getting a job, starting a new life. Archie makes a decision at this point and chooses to propose to one of the two women in his life. He chooses Veronica. Wow, would I have thought that? I guess I kinda always pictured him with Betty for some reason. As anybody can see from the cover, Betty sees it and is hurt.
One thing that I found interesting in this comic, is the conversation between Archie and Jughead. Jughead is kinda miffed that Archie did not tell him of his plan. Made me think... back in the day, if my best friend decided to propose and didn't tell me, would I be mad? Maybe I'm too much of a guy, but probably not. I'd just be happy he told me at all??
It might sound kind of corny, but reading this brought out some good conversation with my wife, daughter and me. Talking about what it's like to be in love, finding the woman you want to marry and how a boy proposes to the girl he loves (I know, but we still like to think we're traditional). We never really shared with our kids how we decided to get married and choosing a ring together, etc. It was a good conversation starter if nothing else.
I'm sure when we get to part 2 of this story, which appears to be the actual wedding, there will be more opportunity to chat about mom and dad's wedding. Should be fun.
Enjoy this one, there are cute moments, funny moments and actually if you look deep enough some thought provoking moments.
