*For the Golden Age Angel see: The Angel.*
Origin
Warren Worthington III was born into an extremely rich family. Having a comfortable life, everything changed when his mutant powers developed, at one of his many private schools in his late teens, and he began to grow wings. Warren kept them hidden under his clothes and even wore a special harness that binded them down to his back, leaving them unnoticeable to all others.Warren began to fight crime as the Avenging Angel and was brought to the attention of Professor Charles Xavier (Professor X). Xavier ran a school for mutants and ran the mutant team, the X-Men. Angel became one of the founding members of the X-Men. At first Warren disguised his face with a mask, but later discarded it feeling that his handsome, telegenic features would gain his team public support. His vanity and slight airiness has been his mark as his life as a mutant. With his vast inheritance it was possibly fated that he would become a media playboy.
At the same time even though he was always loyal to Professor X ideals, he drifted among various superhero groups. Using his vast fortune he backed which ever team he was currently on, such as the Champions of Los Angeles, the Defenders, or the X-Factor.
Archangel
When the Marauders began a massacre of the Morlocks, hideous mutants living underground, Angel was caught in the crossfire. (Note:An archangel is a high ranking angel) His wings were damaged and Warren's wings ended up needlessly being amputated. A murder attempt, covered as a suicide attempt by former friend, Cameron Hodge led to Warren being saved by the age-old evil mutant Apocalypse.Apocalypse offered to restore Angel's wings but there was a catch. Warren's skin turned blue and was given razor sharp metal wings. Warren became Apocalypse's Horseman, Death. Later he was able to overcome Apocalypse's programming and went by the name Archangel. Archangel made his print debut in X-Factor #24.
Slowly Warren began to regain his humanity. Archangel's metallic wings began to molt and Warren discovered his natural feather wings were growing back. His skin was later drained of its blue hue when evil mutant Black Tom Cassidy drained some of his life-force. Although his skin appears to have regained its color now, it is widely believed that his skin is still blue, just a very light shade of blue.
During the Decimation, it seems that Warren's wings have shrived up into useless appendages in his back. But he didn't really lost his powers and it was only a cover-up to hunt down The Ghoul, a mutant who retained his powers and believed himself as a pure mutant and those who lost their powers as tainted beings. He is also apart of the reunion of the original team, (save for Jean Grey, who is dead at the time), who chased down Bishop, who is hunting down the escaped 198, but they later help Bishop in tracking down the remaining mutants.
World War Hulk & Messiah Complex
In the events of World War Hulk, Angel is apart of a faction who goal is to help the Hulk. With him is fellow Champion member Hercules, the cousin of, Namor, Namora, the SHIELD agent, Carmilla Black (Scorpion), and Amadeus Cho, the 7th smartest human in the world. Together they formed the Renegades. After that, he was also involved in the Messiah CompleX. He was with the first team who first investigated the location of the first mutant since the Decimation. Later, he became part of a team who was tracking down former Acolytes, and then the Marauders. He also participated, as all the members of the X-Men, past and present, in the climatic battle for the faith of the mutant baby.
X-Force
X-Force recently reformed, and the team are now using Angel's Aerie as their base of operations. When Angel comes home after the team return from their first mission, and after a quick joke with Wolverine, Warren wants to find out what's going on. Cyclops dodges the question and then Warpath blows up, telling him that the Purifiers have captured Rahne. Angel says that they should tell the others, but Cyclops tells him no, because if they wanted to kill Rahne, they would have by now. When the team returns with Rahne, drugged to the brim with what is believed to be heroin, and Angel runs in after the team as they lay her down. Angel asks what he can do to help, and Wolverine tells him to find Elixir. Elixir heals Rahne, and Angel and Elixir stay with her until she comes around. When Rahne awakens, she quickly morphs to her wolf, form, stabs Elixir in the chest and leaps at Angel. X-23 rushes to the scene, but as she gets there, she realises that Wolfsbane is performing surgery, and when she gets there she finds Wolfsbane standing over Angel, with his wings in her mouth. X-23 allows Wolfsbane to gut her (remembering a speech Wolverine made earlier to her), and she phones the Purifiers, telling them that she has them. The wings are taken to Adam Harkins, who experiments on them, finding the Apocalypse strain inside it, allowing them to create more. They attach the "Archangel" wings to their first, and then to even more, creating "The Choir".Back at Angel's Aerie, and Elixir heals Angel's wounds, but is un able to regrow his wings as they're "not organic". They bandage Angel and put him into a bed, but later he wakes up and begins having a seizure. Wolverine and Warpath try to restrain him, but are unable too. Suddenly, new wings begin to sprout through his bandages, but their not Angel's "organic" wings, their his Apocalypse wings. Angel begins to turn back into Horsemen form, skin and wings. It is unknown at this time if he will be good or evil.
Powers
Emerging
When Angel's powers first emerged, he thought he was some how dying. Big bruises appeared on his back, and his back and shoulders were aching; and although he was eating as he usually did and didn't work out any harder, he wasn't putting on weight. In fact he was losing it, and getting slimmer. His athletic prowess also significantly increased, and he got much faster on the track and could jump much higher, over seven feet.
Actual Powers
Angel has the ability to fly using a pair of large, feathery white wings. His wings are superhumanly strong easily capable of breaking a man's arm or leg and tossing someone through a wall and incredibly flexible as he is able to compress them tightly against his back with only the slightest bulge through his clothing. Like a bird, his body is adapted for flight and has hollow bones, a very fast metabolism, and has no body fat. Warren possesses peak-human strength able to lift almost 400 pounds but his wings allow him to lift 200 more pounds. He has superhumanly sharp vision, hearing and eyes that can withstand high-speed winds. His body is accustomed to low temperatures at high altitudes giving him a greater-than normal tolerance for cold. His lungs extract oxygen and breathe easily whether flying really fast or really high.
While he prefers to fly under the clouds, Warren can fly up to at least twice that height. His max height is the highest recorded altitude of a bird which is the equivalent to Mount Everest but doing so quickly tires him out. He has the ability to fly nonstop for half of a day under his own power.Later, he has developed a secondary mutation of a blood-borne healing factor. He is almost immune to injury because of his powerful regenerative blood continuously flows through his veins, broken bones healed in at least a day and cuts and puncture wounds in moments. Upon mixing his blood with others, they are healed of their injuries through medical or unconventional means. The potency of his regenerative blood can heal minor bumps and bruises to mortal wounds and some illnesses and even restore life to the newly dead.
The only limits to his healing powers is that the person needs a proportional amount of blood for their injury and his blood may not always work, especially if the person does not have the same blood type. Healing others can be problematic since Warren, while having a large blood count and regenerates blood cells quicker than the average human, but does not regenerate blood cells quick enough to compensate for sufficient blood loss.
With Apocalypse's modifications, he was given razor sharp metal wings which could be retracted mechanically. With these wings he could also shoot razor-sharp, poison tipped feathers. The wings sometimes acted on their own, making them hard to control, occasionally forcefully sprouting his metal wings or firing metal feathers when emotionally wound-up. As a side effect of his modifications, Warren's skin was also turned a light shade of blue and due to the psychological shock, he developed a apathetic, cold personality for a while.

Alternate Realities
Earth-295
The Angel of Age of Apocalypse was the owner and operator of the nightclub, Heaven, which was a place where mutants and humans could come together to drink and dance -- as long as they could afford it. Angel did not choose an official side on the war between X-Men and Apocalypse, though he did help the X-Men occasionally, specifically helping Gambit find Magneto and locating a travel route for Nightcrawler to get to Savage Land.
It wasn't until his two business associates, Karma and Quark, were captured by Apocalypse's forces for associating with the Human High Council. Angel himself was eventually captured himself and, though he managed to escape, he found the beaten body of Karma. Filled with anger and thoughts of revenge against Apocalypse, he strapped explosives to his own body and flew into the shield barrier protecting Apocalypse's fortress. His suicide allowed X-Man entry into the citadel.
Angel had the same powers of flight as in the regular Marvel 616 universe. Any secondary mutation, such as his healing blood, either did not exist or was not revealed. Angel also was never turned into Archangel in the AoA universe, therefore he never had the metal wings, poisoned feathers, or blue skin.
Earth-1298
In the Mutant X reality Angel was known as The Fallen and was a member of The Six. He had pale skin, leathery bat-like wings and could breathe fire.
Earth-9997
Earth X Angel has dedicated his life helping less fortunate since he lost his fortune. He joins the NYPD and Iceman to protect the city against Mephisto. He later followed Mr. Fantastic and other heroes in The Negative Zone to search for the paradise.
Earth-714
Earth-714 Angel was forced by the Timebreakers to join their version of Weapon X. He was a more vicious version of his Earth-616 counterpart and carried automatic weapons which he never hesitated to use.
Earth-1610
Angel of the Ultimate Universe was born with his wings. He is a part of X-Men’s junior class. Angel tried to rescue Longshot in Genosha from being publicly executed, but failed and got captured. After being saved by Dazzler, he got scolded by Professor X and got expelled. But this was only a cover-up for Warren to spy on Emma Frost's school. When Bishop reassembled the X-Men, Dazzler wanted Angel to be apart of the new team, although Bishop didn't want it to happen. He was later killed by Mr. Sinister while protecting a morlock.
Earth-311
In the 1602 reality Angel was known as Werner. He was a member of Carlos Javier's witch breed. He fell in love with John Grey ( is actually Jean Grey in a disguise as a man) that made Scott Summerisle (Cyclops) jealous (he thinks that Warren knew that Jean was a woman in disguise).
Earth-2149
In the Marvel Zombies reality, Angel was turned into a zombie by Rogue and Ms. Marvel, as most of earth's heroes. He was later seen attacking Doctor Doom's castle, where cerebro detected a large number of uninfected humans to feed on by the zombies.
Earth-692
In the Amalgam Universe, Warren is fused with Katar Hol/Carter Hall, who is Hawkman, that gave Angelhawk.
