High Adventure in Ancient Greece!
This is a good issue of Arak Son of Thunder. Shipwrecked upon the shores of Greece, Arak and Valda make their way overland, still determined to bring a message from Carolus Magnus and Pope Hadrian to the Byzantine Empress. But they are waylaid and taken captive by Byzantine cavalrymen who destroy their parchment message.
Then, before things can go any further, a stranger frees Arak and Valda, before disappearing up a mountainside. Arak and Valda attempt to follow, but eventually give up and make camp on the high ground. Valda determined to keep her chastity, props a sword between them - but she's unprepared for the music of a satyr that wakes her during the night, and draws her to the demi-human, causing her to shed all her clothes and her vows and inhibitions. Meanwhile, Arak encounters another half human - a centaur!
All around a good issue, with the great art of Ernie Colon, whose pencils here are better than most of the artists working in the field today.
The backup story is another installment in the story of the Viking Prince's quest to rescue his sister from the clutches of Krogg the Red. As usual, the space requirements make it a bit too rushed, but this episode is a bit better on that front than the last couple have been.
