Arachne
Arachne is a comic book character that first appeared in Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars #6The second Spider-Woman and member of the new Omega Flight
Origin
As a single mother Julia became a test subject for a secret government super-soldier program through Valerie Cooper. She gained her powers after going through a series of tests that included injecting her with spider venoms and rare Amazon plants. She became a part of Secret Wars when her home was moved into space by the Beyonder. While there she fought alongside the X-Men, the Avengers, Fantastic Four and Spider-Man (who based his new costume on her look). Force Works
When the Avengers West Coast were disbanded Julia joined the short lived Force Works group. After being drained of her powers and paralyzed by Charlotte Witter she was forced to retire. Julia regained her powers after intense physical therapy and an injection of a duplicate of the original serum she got her powers from. The Shroud and his company allowed her to recover and they soon fell in love. She then began using the name Arachne to separate her from the other Spider-Woman, (Jessica Drew) and Mattie Franklin.
Civil War
During the Civil War, Julia registered under the Super-Human Registration Act. She was later revealed to be a double agent when the Prowler was captured and under interrogation reveals that she tipped him off. After helping The Shroud to escape, a strike force lead by Ms. Marvel was sent to capture her. Julia was about to leave the country with her daughter when she was caught and imprisoned.
Omega Flight
Shortly after the Superhuman Registration act was passed, Julia was persuaded by Tony Stark (Iron Man) to join his team. Alongside with Ms.Marvel and Wonder Man, her mission was to train other registered super heroes to perform government-authorized security activities. As well as the standard apprehension of unregistered super heroes.
She was soon sent to go after the Shroud (Max Coleridge),an unregistered super hero and Julia's new boyfriend. Julia helped him escape from government soldiers and became a fugitive herself. After sending three squads to the hospital, stealing clothes and a car they headed to Colorado to pick up Rachel on their way to Canada. After an ambush by Ms. Marvel and Wonder Man, Shroud was captured, but Arachne evaded the attack and went to her parents in Colorado, where Rachel was staying. Following another ambush by Ms. Marvel )this time including Araña) Arachne was captured and ripped from the arms of her daughter. She was incarcerated and held in chains, before being sent to the Negative Zone.
However, Julia escaped captivity during the Negative Zone prison break, and returned to Colorado in search of Rachel. A S.H.I.E.L.D. Psy-Ops team telepathically traced her to Brooklyn, where she furiously confronted Araña, demanding to know where her daughter has been taken.Arachne later joined Omega Flight in exchange for having the charges against her dropped.
Powers
Arachne has super human strength (able to lift c. 10 tons) , agility, stamina & reflexes. Her powers are very similar to Spider-Man's but hers are psi based. The psi webs that she can produce are much more versatile as she can will them to move and appear from a distance. By concentrating this psionic force in her hands and feet, she is able to cling to and crawl across any surface, even scaling sheer walls. Arachne also possesses heighten senses which allow her to sense vibrations and has been trained in hand-to-hand combat.
