What class strength is Aquaman??

#2 Posted by Raw_Material (3212 posts) - - Show Bio

He's classified has a top-tier in the powerhouse ranks having been depicted to listed amongst Superman, Wonder Woman, & Martian Hunter and has defeated Despero, as well. Aquaman's strong enough to toss a tank or punch a hole in a submerged submarine. It's stated that Arthur is known to be 150 times stronger than an average human, however he's able to lift over 25 tons and is seen carrying really massive objects appearing to have great amount of weight such as an oil rig platform and a city block of Sub-Diego (as shown in picture). His strength enables him to demolish through anything from thick wood to heavy metal and would take reinforced barriers to have a chance of slowing him down. He is also capable of jumping as high as 4 stories on land and from out of the water.

I always found it wierd that Aquaman was classified in the same league as Supes, WW and MM... When a character starts pulling planets, you are not in the same class as him unless you can lift 100 billion tons +.

Aquaman is what 50-60 tons on land, and a few hundred under water? Thats a looooooong way from Supes feat.

Have you been following the New 52 Aquaman at all? Before he even knew his true potential, he was compared to Superman and Wonder Woman; and now that he's actually reaching his full potential going into this 'ToA' crossover, who knows how much power he really is capable of unleashing. I mean Supes dragging a planet with jus chains? C'mon!

I have only read the Throne of Atlantis stories so far. Cool... so hes gotten a powerup? Nice. But still, New 52 Supes can apparently benchpress the earth for 5 days, jeez.

Lol! I love the direction the writers of Superman is taking this character. Showing his true potential....which is limitless..

AQ by the flawed Marvel class system is easily class 100, since he has lifted an ocean liner without the slightest strain. Those things weigh in excess of 100000 tons.

Of course there's a difference between Superman and AQ in strength, but we don't know how big the difference is since a) we don't know AQ's limits, b) AQ is shown to be able to send Supes flying with a punch, tackle WW on a head on collision and take a subsequent hit to the face by WW.

So suffice to say AQ is strong, fast, durable and skilled enough to bring it (physically) to long established "class 100" characters without any trouble. I guess that make's him class 100, although you could argue on the lower end of this category, but definetelly "class 100"

Class 100, just not to the same extent as others.

This is where most writers seem to put him these days which seems about right. It all really depends on who is doing the writing to be honest. Most characters have been shown accomplishing feats of strength out of their designated class on more than one occasion.

He's extremely strong but not Superman or Wonder Woman strong.

@Iron Fist Angel: For the last 2-3 years ALL the writers (mainly Johns) have portrayed Aquaman as class 100. His feats and fights consistently support this (contrary to the class 60). The more recent JL story supports this and shows Aquaman removing Superman from the battle for some moments and temporally overpower WW like he also did in Flashpoint (unlike what you suggest). Plus Aquaman never had a "designated" class since DC doesn't use this system (only one time I have seen it in a DC book). Where did you get 60 class range from?

I remember Aquaman was in the Spiderman range regarding strength but no DC hero outside of Superman, MM and Shazam can stand the crushing depths of the Ocean. Out of the water, Aquaman is still super strong and nearly invulnerable. Plus he has been the leader of the Atlantean army and is an effective fighter, able to maximize his strength. I think 100 million tons is accurate for the Sea King. For maybe Arthur Joseph Curry, I would say 30 tons. In the new 52, Aquaman's leaping ability is measured as 7 miles. Plus he wields the Trident of Poseidon with its various mystical abilities.

Unparalled. Aquaman's considered to be listed to be class 100 and has proven just that when we see him lift many heavy objects such as an oil rig platform, city block of Sub Diego, a tank, and huge cruise ships.

@ckuakini:Didn't someone try and claim Aquaman didn't lift that transatlantic in the new 52?

#16 Posted by Raw_Material (3212 posts) - - Show Bio

@BlackWind: He pretty much lifted it. Aquaman was just checking if there were any internal/external damages done on the vessel and gradually raised it, but then set it down afterwards.

#17 Posted by BlackWind (6101 posts) - - Show Bio

Either way, he doesn't seem to at all be struggling.

@ckuakini: the city block and building lifting feats, was while he possessed the Water Hand (Which power up his strength and some control over magic,elements..)

#19 Edited by comicfan11 (740 posts) - - Show Bio

@matchesmalone21: The water hand does not increase Aquaman's physical abilities. It only provides magic , water manipulation and amplified telepathy. There's no mention whatsoever that it increases his physical strength. Power level through the other abilities sure, but not strength, speed or durability.

#20 Posted by matchesmalone21 (8663 posts) - - Show Bio

@comicfan11: I know, but he can the water manipulation,to help on these situation

#21 Posted by comicfan11 (740 posts) - - Show Bio

@matchesmalone21: Eeeh. He mostly used water manipulation to hold back waves and stuff. Not to "lift objects".

@comicfan11: who knows?? who can confirm this...this is possible
