If you’re reading the current AQUAMAN series by Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis, then you already know Aquaman is pretty badass. But let’s be honest, the character is a running joke to the outside world. I don’t know how many times I’ve had to stop my friends from making an Aquaman joke to say, “No, seriously, he’s really cool now. I swear.”

But I can only preach Aquaman’s “cool status” so far. So maybe that’s why Robot Chicken’s upcoming DC Comics Special exists – it’s going to show the world at large that Aquaman isn’t to be trifled with, both in the sea and on land.

To celebrate the union between DC Entertainment, Adult Swim and Robot Chicken, AQUAMAN #12 will be getting a very special variant cover putting on display Aquaman’s kingly prowess. The image comes courtesy of TV Guide.

According to Geoff Johns himself, he thinks this cover is one of the best they’ve ever done for the series.

This is the last thing I ever thought we'd put on an Aquaman cover because it's such a bizarre collision of worlds but I think it's one of the best covers we've ever done...I just love the look on Superman's face!

Issue #12 of Aquaman releases August 29, while the Robot Chicken DC Comics Special airs at midnight on September 9.

My only complaint about Aquaman is his costume. The colors don't make sense. I like him as a character but not that damn costume!

@Mandrewgora: You should be buying every issue of Aquaman. It's one of DC's best comics. I like it better than Snyder's Batman.

@nszerdy: I really think that is the main reason why so many comic book readers don't like him. Plus the way he was portrayed in the Super Friends cartoon, but I can deal with that but not the costume design and colors. I've complained about it for years. *sigh* Oh, well.

@NightFang: I have to agree. It would make sense for him NOT to have a shirt, and I actually like the fin design on his pants. Never liked the harpoon hand. On the fence about the beard and long hair, as well, but it beats the orange and green. Even people who are severely color blind can see those colors and realize they clash!

OK I know this article was about Aquaman's Robot Chicken Variant cover, but I just couldn't help talking about it. I know you and I have discussed it before, and it just never made sense. Not that I am currently reading any DC but the topic is still relevant.

The Robot Chicken special looks hysterical. So glad that Johns badass-ing Aquaman hasn't stopped Seth Green and co. from making him their punching bag.

I'm a bit torn. While I can see the same thing everyone else does, that this is an AMAZING cover, I am a tad hesitant. Robot Chicken has been instrumental in maintaining the whole Aquaman-is-a-joke meme that has hung like an anchor around the character for years, so much so that Johns has went well out of his way to correct the imbalance. Now the perpetrators get a cover.

If it's available, I suppose I'll probably get it, but I'll feel a little dirty about doing so. All the hand-wringing will likely be for nothing. There's almost no way anyone will be selling these for less than $15.

Are you guys actually reading Aquaman? That "shirt" isn't orange. In new 52, it is made of gold that he looted from shipwrecks. That is covered early in the series.

They're getting pretty slim pickens on ebay, I can't find any at local shops.. and I live near a LOT of shops, haha.

i went to get this and some guy had just took all of them. the store worker says this guy does it all the time and then sells them online.
