    Jackson Hyde

Character » Jackson Hyde appears in 214 issues.

Jackson Hyde/Kaldur'ahm is the son of the infamous villain Black Manta, Aquaman's nemesis. With his Xebel-born mother's hydrokinetic abilities and Atlantean physiology, he fights for justice as a member of the Teen Titans, Young Justice and along with his mentor, Aquaman.

Why do you think the YJ creators decided to dye Kaldur's hair?

Just curious if anyone knows. Was it so he could stand out more? Do we have any interviews about this. It's not that important but I'm curious. I actually think it works well in the cartoon. Not sure if it would look as good in the comics.

Also I know someone will come in here and say, "Maybe that is his natural hair color," And my response is that it's not. Look at his eye brows, they are clearly dark. His hair isn't naturally blonde.

Wonder if there is a story behind this. To me his hair is blonde, I don't feel like his hairs gray. He's too young for that anyway. Not that premature graying doesn't happen but I don't think that is what this is.

If no one knows I may just message Greg Weisman.

Feel free to share your theories or a funny joke.

Also do we know why his water weapons glow, when he summons them? Does it have to do with them being magic

Actually, plenty of people have dark eyebrows and naturally blonde hair.

Because otherwise he would look too much like Static who is also in the show.

    Here's my theory:

But in all seriousness it could solely be an aesthetic thing. Blond hair does stand out over a darker skin tone.

the Aqualad on the show was made before the Aqualad in the comics

Geoff Johns saw the character in early development and liked him so much that he introduced him in Brightest Day

In the tie in comic, Kaldur's mother is golden blonde. So I suppose he takes after her, but obviously his hair is a lighter shade of blond.

Nah, aside from being black, him and Virgil don't look much alike. Unless you mean Jackson Hyde and Virgil? In which case I highly agree, he looks qay too much like Virgil and it's annoying. YJ Kaldur looks more exotic, something I don't mind from an Atlantean.

Well he did a bit more than that, he saw the early concept and then worked on the character with Greg Weisman for the show and also introduced him in Brightest Day.

the whole "Kaldur is Black Manta's son" idea comes from Johns actually.

Idk why they made his hair blonde. I'm not fond of it myself, reminds me of Sisqo from Dru Hill and don't think anyone should be reminded of him lol. Maybe it just looks that way because of salt in his hair *shrugs*. Not really a fan of the dreadlocks either. Isnt he from New Mexico? Not the best place to rock dread im sure. Imho he should just have short black hair, with that being said I really like him on Young Justice

I think that the blond looks better on him. Jackson's hair looks more generic. There's nothing wrong with it, but Kaldur's hair stands out a lot more, which works given his being Atlantean.
