Garth was born with a mutation that was know only to Atlanteans. He had purple eyes - which Atlateans believed was a sign of inferiority - and so at a young age he was exiled from Atlantis. Little is known of his early life until he was found by Aquaman who quickly became his friend and mentor.
Garth can't survive outside of water for to long. He can only be above water for an hour.
Teen titans animated series
Garth was a member of Teen Titans East in the animated series. In the animated series, he could live above water without any problems. Starfire and Raven had a crush on him. Everytime they seen him hearts appeared in their eyes.
