Edit
Anubis is known as "The Guardian of the Veil" and is the patron god of funerary rites and the passage of souls. He acted as a guide to the souls passing into the underworld and was the protector and advocate of lost souls, being the ruler of the underworld. It was he who would measure the dead's hearts in judgement and their worthiness to enter the afterlife in the presence of Thoth, the scribe of the gods, and Osiris, who acted as judge. Rather than god of death, as he was commonly thought to be, he was the god of the dying. It was even he who was trusted with the organs of Osiris. After having originally being thought of as the fourth son of Ra, he fell in popularity and became thought of as a son of Osiris and Nephthys. Though there are versions of the mythos that claim Set is his father. Anubis was seen as the dominator of the foes of Egypt as he is often depicted sitting atop the Nine Bows, which were symbols for the enemies of Egypt. Thus showing that even as Anubis was the sheperd of the souls of Egypt, we was a fearsome destroyer to it's enemies.
