There's been a lot of talk over the past few months about who'll fill Ant-Man's boots in the Marvel cinematic universe. Early reports claimed it was down to Joseph Godon Levitt and Paul Rudd, and according to Variety, Paul Rudd is indeed the one Marvel Studios is going to work with. The website claims the actor's in early negotiations to star in Edgar Wright's upcoming Ant-Man movie. Wright also co-wrote the film's script with Joe Cornish.

Could have sworn this rumor was floating around months ago. Rudd and Simon Pegg.

Anyways, I've never been impressed with Rudd, so meh.

Also, they probably all ready casted Ant-Man and are just waiting to annouce it.

So am I the only one that keeps confusing Paul Rudd and Paul Walker?

I love it. Big fan of Paul Rudd and he can also pull off the serious stuff. Ant-Man can use a good dose of humor to be received well by the public. Marvel still hasn't let me down.

They need someone who can convincingly play a wife beater, and someone who's crazy.

Rudd & Joseph Gordon Levitt was the most recent rumor for the past few months. Which is weird... because they're pretty different, especially age-wise. I'm happier with this pick.

Both Lex and Pym being potentially cast?? It's a great time to be a comic book fan.

That's commented on in the first two sentences, but this is alleging he's going to get it (unless negotiations don't pan out or whatever). Simon Pegg everyone assumed because of his relationship with Wright and that time he pointed to a picture of Ant-Man -- but as Pegg clearly pointed out, he was just supporting his friend in that image. There was never any actual substance to the Pegg talk.

The Ant-Man/JGL rumor was around for months before the Sandman news hit. So, yeah, JGL is definitely out.

I've got a big man crush on Paul Rudd. He's one of my favorite actors. Not my first pick for Ant-Man, but him and Wright could turn out a really great movie.

I'd really like to see Rudd and Sean William Scott reteam and play Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. Their chemistry in Role Models was classic Blue & Gold.

@lyrafay: That's my only hang up. I had the same problem when James Franco was cast in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I thought, " How am I supposed to buy him as a scientist"?

I'd be happy with this casting. Before I heard the news I didn't even think of him but after hearing it, it just makes a lot of sense.

Paul Rudd would be great in the role. I can think of other people I think would also do a great job, but Gordon-Levitt is not among them, so, if the previous news was true, then I'll be really happy if this news is true. Gordon-Levitt would make a great Dream of the Endless in Sandman though, so as long as WB doesn't screw up yet again, he has his own bright future with comics properties.

I wonder which Ant Man Rudd would play? I guess at this point, listening to other news on the project, Hank Pym is unfortunately unlikely. I could see him as any of the three, but probably mostly as Scott Lang.

@farkam: I don't know why but Ben Foster springs to mind. He's a talented actor who hasn't really been given a shot at something this big.

I prefer Paul Walker.

Maybe they will have him cast in time for Age of Ultron.

I could really see him as Ant-Man just because Ant-Man hasn't always been the funny go lucky guy we think he is to be. There were points in time where he was depressed and angry which Paul is really good at doing as seen by him in Role Models but he can also serious shown in the same movie. Also he has a comedic factor to him shown in movies such as Anchorman. So I love this choice.

EDIT: I Mean this goes for any Ant-Man look at Scott Lang in FF or Henry Pym even though it might be unlikely

Sounds good. He was great in Anchorman and Parks and Rec, and I'm sure he can do serious stuff too.

@fil123: And in the Ultimate Universe, Hulk is a cannibal, Cap was president, and Tony Stark is a living brain. I don't really see where you're going with that point.

They are also having Scott Lang be a core character in this film (maybe Janet as well, I can only hope).

If he were Eric O'Grady, or Scott Lang I could see it.

Meh. He could make it work. I just hope they don't go for the whole wife-beater angle on the character. He couldn't make that work at all.

I was really hoping for either Rudd or Pegg (very different actors, but I could easily envision either of them). I would have been very unhappy with JGL.

As a side note, before we knew who Vin Diesel was playing, I was kind of hoping he would have been Hank Pym. I really like, Rudd, and I don't really care for Vin Diesel, so I'm happier with this of course, but I thought it would have been an interesting and unexpected decision, to make the big muscly guy into the nerdiest goofiest character. Similarly, we know about Man of Steel 2 (or whatever it's called) having Jason Momoa, and people are expecting him to play someone big and brooding like Martian Manhunter, but I think it'd be a cooler and unexpected casting to make him someone like Lex Luther.

Paul Rudd is awesome and Hank Pym is awesome. I see no possibility of negativity.

I love this choice. Rudd can handle both comedy and drama very well.
