The reptilian mutant known as Anole was a student at the Xavier Institute. Openly gay and once leader of the Alpha Squadron, he was recently promoted to the New X-Men squad before it was disbanded and is currently a member of Young X-Men.
Anole (Victor Borkowksi) was born and raised in small-town America, Victor is a sixteen year old mutant who grew up quite normally despite his mutation and appearance. The neighborhood he grew up in was a small community that accepted him for who he was until anti-mutant feelings spread and threatened his safety. As a result Victor was sent off to the Xavier Institute where he quickly excelled academically and made close friends with Northstar who subsequently helped him come to terms with his sexuality.
When his homosexuality was 'outed' to his friends, most of them already were aware that he was gay, except for Rockslide.
When advisors were being assigned, Victor at first chose Karma but was reassigned to Northstar. Victor's friends spanned almost every team and school clique, from popular snob Julian Keller ( Hellion) of the Hellions to outcast New Mutant, Joshua Foley ( Elixir). Anole was also field leader of the Alpha Squadron and became very close friends with teammates Indra and Loa.
When Northstar was killed by Wolverine, Victor was deeply affected and no longer felt the understanding of a fellow gay mutant. Unbeknown to Anole or any of the X-Men, Northstar was quickly resurrected and brainwashed by The Hand.
In the wake of the House of M, more than 90% of the mutant population lost their mutant powers. However, Anole was spared as one of the 27 remaining students at the school.
Shortly after Decimation, Emma Frost called for an all out brawl to decide who would lead this new X-Men group. Though Anole was not selected, he still remained at the Institute to further his training.
A manipulated Northstar later returned to the Institute under the control of the Children of the Vault. An excited Anole approached his former mentor and wished to speak with him. Though Northstar's recognition of Victor almost gave him a moment of mental lucidity, Northstar instead attacked his young pupil leaving him unconscious.
Anole recovered from his injuries without issue. He and his friends were then told a cryptic tale by Blindfold, who then revealed the story to be real just as Anole and his friends were dragged into Limbo. After Rockslide was apparently destroyed by a demon, Victor aggressively took charge, only to get his arm cut off by a demon. Victor wondered why it didn't hurt and why he did not die of severe blood loss. Victor, along with the rest of the group were trapped in a stone-like imprisonment, as Illyana Rasputin tried to take Pixie's soul to make a soul sword. After hearing some cryptic advice from Blindfold, Anole broke free of his stone entrapment and grew a new arm, looking similar to the carapace on his scalp. He broke free to save Pixie. Later Belasco was killed and Illyana became the ruler of Limbo. Anole and his friends escaped from Limbo, for the most part, safely.
When both teams that were in Limbo made it back, Rockslide demanded that Anole and Pixie be allowed to join the New X-Men team, or he would leave the team. The New X-Men accepted the two new additions and Victor officially became part of the New X-Men training squad.
When Surge set out to infiltrate the Purifiers, Anole was among the group, although he was somewhat reluctant. He only went along to help the baby; he was not out for revenge. Using his stealthy abilities and computer skills, he was able to find out that the Purifiers did not possess the mutant baby and also met up with Rictor, who was sent on the same mission by Cyclops. The New X-Men were ambushed by Lady Deathstrike and the Reavers, but Pixie managed to teleport them away--unfortunately spread across different parts of the continent.
The team was later retrieved by Iceman where Anole and his fellow students protected the Xavier Institute from Predator X. Later, Pixie also teleported the students, along with Predator X to Muir Island, where the final battle for the mutant baby took place.
Enhanced Speed:
Capable of moving and running slightly faster than a normal human, but he is not on par with powered speedsters.
Superhuman Stamina:
Anole's muscles produce far less fatigue toxins during physical activity than the muscles of an average human. He can exert himself at peak capacity for several hours before fatigue impairs him.
Regenerative Healing Factor:
Anole possess a healing factor, though not on par with Wolverine. He has shown the ability to re-grow limbs from his body once the older one has been removed. In such an incident the body part the replaces the old is larger and more reptilian in appearance and apparently stronger as well. It is unknown if his entire body with share the same mutation or if it is a limited mutation.
Superhuman Agility:
Anole's natural agility, balance, and coordination are enhanced to increased levels, allowing him to perform feats that those of normal agility would find incredibly hard to do.
Superhuman Reflexes:
He has the reaction time that is roughly half of that of normal base-line human's.
Razor Sharp Spikes & Claws:
As part of his physical mutation, Anole has spikes that appear on his scalp. His regrown arm also has razor sharp claws allowing for greater battle prowess
Prehensile Tongue:
Anole has an incredibly long tongue (apparently longer than his own body length) which he is capable of rapidly and abruptly extending out of the mouth. The tongue has a sticky tip on the end, which serves to catch anything that he would otherwise never be able to reach.
Camouflage Ability:
Anole possesses superhuman ability to alter his skin color and appearance enabling him to copy that of any surface he stands against.
Superhuman Strength:
Anole possesses superhuman strength enabling him to lift weights to, as of yet, unmeasured levels. However this power is only in his right arm, and only appeared after regrowing his limb. The rest of his body remains in general human strength.
During the Quest For Magik arc, his right arm was severed at the shoulder and he has grown it back covered with the same carapace that covers his scalp. This arm has been shown to provide Anole with super-strength. The new arm also has sharp spikes and claws on the hand. Beast has examined him and confirmed that whenever he would lose a limb a new one would grow out, stronger than before. Rockslide and X-23 offered him help with dismembering, but Anole declined.
Special Talents, Skills, and Qualifications
Anole is very interested in Theater, and as a result, Victor is a very talented actor. In fact, he was voted 'Best Actor' by the student body of the Xavier Institute.
In this reality Anole is not yet field ready and is in the beginning stages of the SHIELD training department. He is shown being training by Aurora and Northstar along with a few other newer recruits.
In this alternate future, Anole, Graymalkin, Diamondheart (aka Emma Frost) and Wolverine are the last X-Men alive. Dust has killed many, believing mutants are a plague. She kills Wolverine, and proceeds to kill the others. She claims that when Ink saved her life, he took away her soul. It is unclear if Anole and Graymalkin were in a relationship.
Anole appears as one of the Omega's and later one of Magneto's Brotherhood. He gets hit with a needle that contains the cure.
Anole was created by Nunzio DeFilippis, Christina Weir and Keron Grant.
