Annihilus / Annihilation - Making the Connection
THE GOOD
This trade, the last part of the Annihilation story arc, has it all - each of the six Annihilation Volume Issues, the two Annihilation: Heralds of Galactus Volume Issues, and the Nova Corps Files One-Shot.
Art - I loved it. I loved the penciling, the coloring, everything. Even with the volume changes (from Annihilation to the Heralds to the Nova Corps Files), the artist changes were not really noticeable.
Writing - I thought the story was well written, coordinated and executed. It fit the Sci-Fi genre perfectly and it read like a movie. In fact, as I was following Drax through his story line, I was wondering why there was never an Annihilation Video Game?
Story - Wow. I loved it! The tie-ins fit perfectly into the major story books and the finale with the Heralds volume was the best ending I could have asked for. The interaction between the characters was great; the humans felt human (namely Richard and Peter) and the aliens felt alien. Thanos was at his best - even down to his final line, "Interesting."
THE BAD
Not too much wrong with this trade. There were only a couple things that struck me as odd:
- Cammi's role in all of this - it either should have been more significant or less noticable
- Cammi's chewing-gum bubble-blowing - how much bubble gum did she bring from home? What brand is it? (I have never seen a piece of gum last so long!)
- The amount of full panel smiling - I think I will blog on this topic, once I get a tally of the actual count!
THE VERDICT
This is the perfect TPB to finish off the Annihilation Story Arc. If you have the other two books, then this one is a no-brainer. I spent quite a few hours updating the Wiki Pages for the individual volumes collected in this trade - at the very least, this should show some evidence of my conviction towards this series. :) Obviously, I recommend this TPB, just like I recommended the others.
