After an argument with his family, Buddy Baker heads to the desert for some time to think, but there he meets an usual creature: a wily coyote with the bizarre ability to survive brutally fatal attacks.

The story opens a year ago. A truck driver who has picked up a hitchhiker named Carrie speeds through Death Valley. She's a runaway going to Hollywood. He's a former drug addict, born again. While speeding along, they hit an anthropomorphic animal.

In the present, Buddy Baker, decides that his family should go vegetarian. He throws all the meat product from the family's refrigerator, much to his wife Ellen's chagrin. In the ensuing argument, Buddy storms off, flying to the desert to calm himself down and think.

Meanwhile, the trucker has tracked down the animal, which seems to have remarkable supernatural powers of regeneration. He's convinced that the beast is in fact the Devil.

And then, when all three meet in the blazing desert, all is revealed...

Sympathy for the Coyote 0

This has to be one of my all time favorite issues of any comic. I've read it several times over the years and it never gets old. Imagine a fusion of superheroes, religion and cartoons and you get some idea of what this issue is about.  To avoid spoilers, all I will say is, imagine for a minute, what if Wile E. Coyote was an actual living breathing coyote-man. Now imagine if he was also a Christ figure, a redeemer for an entire world. Further imagine that another man was convinced that the Coyote...
