To Arcane's Castle!
Among the many good titles in the New 52, this is one of the best in my opinion.
What made this number very good were all the special appearances, that include Hawk, Dove, Deathstroke, Grifter, etc (all "zombified"). It also had some great battles and lots of blood and "human" organs flying around.
Pugh's art is good, but nothing amazing, as it has its ups and downs. The pencilling looked quite "lazy" at some points, even though it was quite good in the battle scenes. Buddy's facial expressions of anger were also nice displayed once he heard Maxine was still alive.
And after the "good news", Animal Man is told that the Avatar of the Red is actually in Arcane's castle. Despite Constantine's warnings, Buddy, thankfully (for the readers), decides to go, even though it probably is a trap.
After a long and tiring journey, Constantine, Steel, Black Orchid, Beast Boy and Buddy decide to stop for the day and continue after some rest. The problem is, they stop right in Gorilla City, so just take a guess at who is about to attack them. With such conclusion, it should be interesting to see how it unfolds for our heroes in the next issue.
This issue also showed us what happened before the Rot took over. Cliff, Ellen and Ellen's mom were "infected" by the rot and Maxine gets really desperate. She actually acts like an adult would, fact that proves that she is smarter and more mature than a normal 4 years old. One of my favorite parts of this comic also happened before the rot won. While Maxine is running from her own family, she finds a very evil and special boy in an abandoned restaurant. Again, I'll let you guess who it is!
Once more, Lemire gives us a great story, which should make the following issues even more thrilling. Unfortunately, I just can't dig Pugh's art for this issue, specifically. I mean, I always liked his pencilling for Animal Man, but in this number it just doesn't look that good at some parts.
