From 1941 to 1951 the Anglo-American Publishing Company Limited (AAPC) produced 37 series with a total of 372 issues. The company started up after American comic books were barred from crossing into Canada because of the War Exchange Conservation Act passed in 1940.
To fill the need for Canadian kids to read American comics in what is later referred to as the Golden Age of comics the AAPC started producing Canadian reworks of American publishers comics like Fawcett Comic titles such as Captain Marvel and Joe Louis - Champion of Champions.
After the war the ban was lifted and the American comic producers could once again sell their own products in Canada, which eventually led to the downfall of the AAPC.
