Yep, that was my reaction panel after panel, page after page, "What the....!"
Nice way to say that you made a huge mistake with your universe is to just have a time continuum alteration of the entire universe. Of course just about everyone is either brought back to life or "returned to their prior selves" in this tail end of After The Fall; everyone except my fave Wesley (Grrr Argh, indeed). This "reboot/retcon/whoops" is how Aftermath will launch.
Does that mean you shouldn't read it? No. As a fan, you should continue otherwise by the next issue you will be completely lost. Is it a well-written issue? Not in my opinion. It's confusing to say the least and a cheap cop out to return things to the way the were in order to have any kind of Angelverse stories we were used to. I imagine they realized there wasn't going to be much to write about if they kept killing everyone off. The only one left in any decent capacity was Spike (Angel was human and dying; Connor = dead; Illyria a giant alien monster; Wes = ghosty W&H lackey; Gunn=confused Vamp acting like he had a soul but didn't so ....) This time alteration was much needed because of the creators' inability to provide stories without destroying their characters.
On a subscription note, if you are subbed to Angel: ATF, make sure you check with your comic shop to ensure that you will be getting the next installment because Diamond may have given it a new code. Joss is not just stamping his name on this next portion of the story and I've been told it's going to be called just "Angel" but the numbering will continuing in sequence.
