Andreas Strucker was the third Swordsman, a former member of the Thunderbolts. He is believed to have been killed by Norman Osborn.
History
Andreas Von Strucker is the son of Baron Strucker and the twin brother of Andrea Von Strucker. While in-utero, Andreas and his sister were bio-enginered to have superpowers. As a result they must be in skin to skin contact with each other to use their powers. They usually accomplished this by holding hands.Becoming Swordsman
After Andrea's death Andreas, who was being controlled by the Purple Man at the time, flayed off some of the skin from her corpse and preserved it so he could continue to use his powers. He then wrapped some of it around the hilt of his sword. While being controlled by the Purple Man, Andreas was sent to kill Baron Strucker. While attempting this, Baron Strucker was also attacked by Wolverine, who was at the time being controlled by a splinter group of HYDRA, called the Dawn Of the White Light. Andreas protected his father and also prevented him from killing Wolverine. When Andreas managed to free himself of Purple Man's hold, he joined the Thunderbolts.
Caged Angel
The Thunderbolts soon became a government-sponsored unit, and Andreas negotiated a deal. The American government would have his service for a year. Then in a year's time, he would be pardoned off all crimes and leave with a clone of his sister.Andreas began to have his doubts that Norman Osborn would fulfill the promise of cloning Andrea, suspecting instead that this promise would be held over his head indefinitely to keep him in servitude. So when the Thunderbolts took a covert mission to capture Arnim Zola in China, Andreas got to the scientist first and made a side deal. He would let Zola escape and feed information that would keep Zola from getting nearly caught again. In return, Zola would also work on finding a way to successful clone his sister. The deal was accepted.
Telepaths infiltrated Thunderbolts Mountain and began affecting people's minds, pushing their already existing buttons. Andreas' arrogance was pushed beyond its normal limits. He exploded a bomb on the Zeus in the flight deck and recruited his own faction of guards to help takeover the mountain. Demanding to be called Baron Strucker, he shaved his head and spraypainted his guards' armor purple to match him. Most of them were shot to death minutes later. He sliced his way through any other guards who got in his way until his rampage crossed with Venom's own rampage. They fought. Andreas thrusted his sword into Venom's gut, using an energy blast to disperse the symbiote so the blade could reach Gargan underneath. Andreas continued on. He was chased down by Norman Osborn, who had also snapped and was flying around as the Green Goblin. Osborn soundly beat Andreas, leaving him crucified to a wall with razorbats through his hands and feet.
Secret Invasion
Andreas survived that encounter, though only barely. The telepaths were killed, and the work of the Thunderbolts went on. Just before the Secret Invasion hit in full force, Andrea Strucker appeared at the mountain with no memory of how she got there. Andreas immediately took this to be the work of Arnim Zola. With his sister back, he had little reason to be loyal to Osborn and the Thunderbolts any longer. However, the Skrulls attacked before this could be resolved. A Skrull posing as Captain Marvel attacked and nearly killed Swordsman before being driven off by Osborn.Andreas and his sister joined the Thunderbolts defense of Washington D.C. against the Skrulls. During the battle, he was blasted from behind by Moonstone, who had been ordered to keep an eye on them to determine how Andrea was communicating with the Skrulls. Only it turned out Andrea wasn't a Skrull as everybody else had been expecting. Still, she was killed by Bullseye while Andreas remained unconscious. When he awoke and found his sister dead again, Osborn told him it was the Skrulls' doing. He believed this but still put some of the blame on Osborn. He went on to vent his grief and rage on every Skrull he could find.
Dark Reign
In the aftermath of the invasion, Andreas burned his sister's body, feeling it would be wrong to bury her in the family masoleum a second time. Songbird joined him as he did so, though he did not ask for company. He made his intentions clear to her. He would serve out the remainder of his Thunderbolts contract loyally and then murder Norman Osborn. He also tried to warn Songbird of what was to come. Saying what he knew outright was more than he was willing to do, but he did imply that Osborn had serious plans for changes with the Thunderbolts.Songbird would learn what Andreas meant later, when the rest of the Thunderbolts tried to murder her in the mountain. She nearly escaped, crashing the Zeus outside where Bullseye had her dead to rights. The only reason she survived was because Andreas blasted Bullseye. He was in on the plan to kill her as well but had chosen not to go along with what Osborn wanted. He told her he would cover up her survival by saying she died in the Zeus.
Andreas later confronted Osborn. He was furious that Osborn seemed to be changing the plan. Deals had been made with Moonstone, Venom and Bullseye but not him. He wasn't going to be betrayed and sent back to prison. Osborn attempted to explain, but Andreas was too angry, threatening to go public with things he knew. The stress got to Osborn's already weak hold of sanity. He snapped and ran Andreas through with Andreas' own sword, shouting about how he was the one in charge. Andreas was then thrown out the window.
Powers
Andreas is a brilliant hand to hand fighter, and as his name suggests a skilled swordsman. Due to his bio-engineering when ever he is touching his sister (ex. holding her hand) has bio-electric blasts/dissentigrating plasma blasts and the ablity to fly. When holding his sword, Swordsman is capable of creating large amounts of Energy which he can then channel through his sword. He's able to still access his mutant power in this way thanks to having wrapped his sword's hilt with his dead sister's skin.
Alternate Universes
Earth-58163
In the House of M reality, Andreas is still part of Thunderbolts but in this universe the group are human freedom fighters. Andreas was fighting the kree along side his sister and fellow thunderbolts but was killed by Major Erik Josten of the Howling Commandos.
