    Vampires Fighting During WWII

The characters we've been following are about to enter WWII as the next big story arc begins. Great place to jump in if you haven't been reading the series.

    The Good

Month after month I'm amazed that I can get so excited and be so entertained by a comic book about vampires. The idea of the America Vampire that Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque have given us is something different. We've read the same old vampire stories before but this is clearly different. It's not about their lust for blood or survival. These characters have personalities and a story behind them.

Snyder takes the characters to a new phase as we enter WWII. Seeing the interaction between American Vampire Pearl and her husband is both strange and touching. In typical Snyder-fashion, you get sucked into the story and I found myself slowly turning each page in anticipation and dread over what might happen next.

There are many great artists and we've seen some in the pages of this series but you can't deny there's just something just right seeing Albuquerque's art telling the story along with Snyder's words. He draws creepy looking vampires and also makes Pearl appear so sweet and innocent. You really get a sense of the emotion between Pearl and Henry when they spend their time together. Snyder and Albuquerque are perfect together on this book.

    The Bad

Seriously? Nothing. This is a great first part of a new arc and it moves the series forward while building up the excitement for what's to come.

    The Verdict

I can't believe I didn't start reading this book right away. There was some buzz right as it came out so I was buying the issues but didn't get around to reading right away. Once I did, I was kicking myself for waiting (even though it meant I could enjoy them in one sitting). I've said it before and I'll say it again, the idea of vampires in today's media is a tired concept but this is clearly something different. The idea of the American Vampires adds something new. Now that we're in the WWII time period, things are going to change. You'll find yourself turning each page slowly as the anticipation of what might happen next builds up as the story progresses. Snyder's story along with Albuquerque's art gives a feeling that all is right in the world...or at least in the world of comics. This is far from your typical vampire story and clearly shows that old concepts can be made fresh and exciting.

      Ghost War, Part One 0

The start of a brand new story arc takes us to World War II.   The Good:  Issue after issue, month after month, for 13 consistent issues, Scott Snyder has kept me hooked on to this book. This story takes us to World War II, where Pear Jones and her husband Henry Preston have been in hiding from the world for two decades, until Henry is recruited for a special something. With each issue that is released, I still get excited, and for good reason. Snyder has brilliant storytelling abilities and he'...
