Short but good
In this comic based on the popular ame-comi statues from DC Direct(Collectible) writers Jimmy Palmotti and Justin Gray reinterprets the tale of Wonder Woman with some fresh new perspectives. They provide some fresh twists, but i was expecting this issue to deviate a lot from the classic version, instead the amazons here are very similar to the once we know and love from the classic tales of wonder woman( not with the original greek mythology), much more so than the DCnU.
The Good
The story is fast paced with some fresh takes but the characters feel familiar, which i take is a good thing. Diana comes off as a little arrogant and tempermental, but compassionate and responsible at the same time, Hippolyta is in the familiar role of the stern but loving mother. Unfortunately since the issue is very short much cannot be said about Steve Trevor. But the real highlight is Amanda Conner's art, and of course the costume design. Although it might be a little too fancy for some fans, i wish the DCnU Wonder Woman looked more like this.
The Bad
The only complain i have is that the issue felt a bit short, in fact very short.
Verdict
I think the fans of both the pre flashpoint Wonder Woman and the New 52 Wonder Woman will love this. It manages to walk the fine line between the two, especially in the depiction of Diana. She is tempermental and always up for a fight but compassionate and caring at the same time. Although the issue felt very short i think its worth the $0.99.
