The Return of Alpha Flight
In a Live Blog from Marvel today, it was announced that their Next Big Thing would bring the return of the Canadian superteam, Alpha Flight. Tied to the upcoming Marvel event, Fear Itself, the creators involved were revealed to be writers Fred Van Lente and Greg Pak with art by Dale Eaglesham. Alpha Flight will return in a maxi-series.

Since the team was resurrected during Chaos War, we will see that some time has passed. We were assured that you don't have to have read anything prior to this in order to jump on board.

As a result of Fear Itself, there is a change in government. Alpha Flight finds themselves the country's "greatest traitors" and have to go on the run to figure out what is behind the government takeover.

It was confirmed that Guardian, Vindicator, Sasquatch, Shaman, Snowbird, Aurora, Northstar and Marrina will be on the team with a good chance for Puck as well. This is the original team from Uncanny X-Men #120.

The series is slotted for eight issues, all by Van Lente, Pak and Eaglesham with a .1 issue illustrated by Ben Oliver in May. Van Lente said "If there's demand, I would imagine there will be a ninth issue and beyond."

LOL error: northstar and aurora were already alive! ^_^
& lol love cap's sentence: "look who's not dead anymore"...perhaps an easter egg?

Well, Puck's gotta pull his short ass outta hell first.  But I guess based on his position at the end of Wolverine #5, that's a distinct possibility.

I might read it if their first mission is to track down and beat the living crap out of Michael Pointer.

since Marvel's planning on killing a character every quarter, I assume that's what they're bringing Alpha Flight back for

WHERE THE HELL IS PUCK

#30 Posted by iLLituracy (13522 posts) - - Show Bio

McNiven had Guardian's corpse crying lying face down in the snow after getting steamrolled. I can't look at this team the same after they got mollywhopped by the Collective in New Avengers.

Wow, the classic line-up too!

I wonder how long it'll take to calm Red LAMP back down? :)

iv always wanted to read about them
people tell me they are like canadian x-men
so is it gonna be called return of alpha flight or just alpha flight?

#38 Posted by Iron_Lad (315 posts) - - Show Bio

I've figured out a an ingenious way to make Alpha Flight popular. Have Wolverine join the team! Heck, he's Canadian too isn't he?...and damn proud of it too! That comic would sell like hot cakes!

There's no point of this team coming back.If you're not the Avengers or X-men...Marvel will find away for you not to get any spotlight.

This is great news, I hope it sells enough to continue past 8 issues. Though I do have a question, they're the country's 'greatest traitors'. Is that their country's traitors or America's traitors?
#41 Posted by Dr. Detfink (460 posts) - - Show Bio
@mk111:  Exactly. How many times has Alpha Flight been killed off and brought back? The first volume made some bold moves. The trick doesn't work in what is it its third volume? or is its fourth?

Never read of any outcry from a rash number of fans demanding the return of Alpha Flight. Yet, here it is another $4 book that is going to contribute to January's report of sales sliding and the failure to increase readership. See Jason Aaron's (Scalped) column at CBR.

Maybe the worst part is, Pak & Van Lente don't need another title unless are they like Bendis planning to budget their own movie studio? How about giving a new comer a shot? Or a budding star?

This is why I love DC's angle of using Vertigo as a place where fresh writers cut their teeth before tackling the mainstream stuff. For Marvel it's the opposite. If you can sell mainstream, then we'll allow you to do your own thing in Icon. Rubbish.

As a very proud Canadian and Top editor to the Toronto page, I can honestly say Alpha Flight or no Alpha Flight I am happy.
#47 Edited by Chris2KLee (173 posts) - - Show Bio

Eh? I don't think anyone on this creative team is Canadian, and that has me doubting. Alpha Flight was a fun series when it started with John Byrne, who crew up in Canada and actually had a feel for it. My issue with America writers and artists doing Alpha Flight is they figure they can reference a few episodes of SCTV or something, and then just write the heroes like they're hanging out in a slightly different version of New York. There are some great Canadian artists and writers out there, get them.

this mediocre event with an ending just as lame. We get Alpha Flight back...but not Captain Marvel? Yellowjacket? Banshee? Moira?

If an event it started that is only intended to revive dead characters, at least revive the good ones. -.-

Of course, this means either Northstar is pulling double duty, or leaving the X-Men.

what's this all "aboot"?
