All Star Endeavor!
Ok, I hope I don't forget anything because it's been a couple hours since I watched the movie and I decided to delve into the special features before I sat down to write this.
The story is freaking amazing. Right now I feel like the only comic book fan on the face of the planet that hasn't read the comic. I know, commence with the beatings. In my defense I did just order volumes 1 & 2 graphic novels from Barnes & Noble, by this time next week I'll be all caught up.
This story really did bring in everyone. I bought it last night because I saw the combo pack in Target and was like "sweet!". This morning my daughter saw it, who is also a huge superhero fan like daddy, and wanted to watch it immediately. Well, I popped in the Blu-Ray disc and the movie was kicked off with a sigh of exasperation from my wife as she jumped on the computer knowing that the Tv would be tied up for the next 75 minutes.
By the end of the movie my wife was watching with us, crying, as Superman flew into the sun. To me that says more about the power of this story than anything else I could say.
The animation I thought was very well put together. The art style wasn't exactly like Frank's but it brought in just enough of his style as to pay homage to it. I don't know how Frank's style really would translate to animation, but I'm not entirely sure it would look right in motion.
The voice acting here was top notch. So much so that I didn't miss the normal actors that portray the characters. James Denton's Superman was gentle and calm which was an added treat, some actors bring an almost forced confidence to the character but this was almost pure gold. He even nailed the intensity of Superman in scenes like the battle with Solaris.
Lex Luthor portrayed by Anthony LaPaglia was also top notch. He started out calm and intelligent in the beginning of the movie, but there was a gravelly-ness added later as Lex got closer to his goal and more excited/anxious.
All in all this movie was pure gold. I can't wait until my graphic novels get here so I can read more of this wonderful story.
