Would this be a good storyline?
Character » Alfred appears in 2569 issues.
It would be interesting but that would never happen in the mainstream continuity.
But no on him dying in the mainstream. He is a fun character.
He was dying at one point, but I don't think any writer in his right mind would kill Alfred and make it permanent (they did kill him in the golden age, but brought him back as supervillain and then back as a butler).

Only as an Elseworlds. I don't want to see that happen in mainstream continuity.
Pretty much this,I dont want to see it happen in the main continuity, but it would it would be interesting to see it happen.
He's like the Aunt May of Batman. They never die.
Isn't he already dead in Batman Beyond?
I wouldn't mind one way or the other.

I dont want to see it happen but in truth it has potential for a great storyline.
It would be good if it was a major part of a storyline, but not an entire storyline by itself.
I would say no because wasn't Alfred one of Bruce Waynes mentors?
It's not a good idea, for the simple reason the corner stone of your story is "Kill Alfred" and there's nothing to tell me more/enough to say that's a good plot or not.
It's something that I would only ever be ok with if it were very significant, and a VERY well written story

Yep, kill him
Personally I think it would be really sad if it happened in the main run but if the story was good enough it could be worth it.
That would be odd if Alfed died, even though he is an old man.... I just wonder how Batman aka Bruce Wayne would handle it.
Nope. In an alternate universe it's okay, but Alfred is sacred, like Aunt May. If they were to kill him, I'd be tremendously upset, and there wouldn't be a "non-stupid" way of bringing him back to life. If it ever does happen, you can be guaranteed I'll be prepping my torches to go after the people behind such a story.
if Alfred dies then so does batman , there is no Batman without his butler
You know it's odd how many people have never thought of this. I mean look at how many of Batman's enemies know his identity. Now think about how intelligent so many of his enemies are yet its rare that Alfred finds himself in any real danger. As to the question of how Bruce would react just look at the way he reacted to Jason's death. he dealt with things in a darker way after that. Now add to that change the fact that it would crush the entire bat family and destroy Bruces constant anchor to humanity. it would have to be a murder though. I think it would be an interesting way to kill a villian. i fully believe batman would kill for alfred. that wouldake him either become supervigilant like azreal did or retire the cowl. batman inc could make it work. just bruce saying im done being batman and not having alfred to tell him otherwise.

It had better be the best story ever, because I would never forgive them.

Didn't it already happen once, but it turned out he was alive the whole time?
yep. He became Outsider, fought batman, and then returned to normal after a little bit.

yep
without alfred, wayne manor would fall into disrepair
It seems more like a spidey story.
Alfred is far more essential than Aunt May will ever be, for the posts in this thread that keep comparing them.
He died and was back because he loved Bruce and Dick so much he beat death.
Yeah, he beat death.
