Was a reason ever given? Was it ever retconned away? Do you think he'll have this affliction in the new Earth 2?
Alan Scott
Character » Alan Scott appears in 2027 issues.
Alan Scott, the bearer of the mystical Starheart, is the original Golden Age Green Lantern and a founding member of the Justice Society of America. An all-time great, Alan continues to fight for truth, justice and freedom well into old age as a member of the Justice Society. Why can't Alan Scott affect wood?

Sounds like he affects plenty of wood nowadays.....if you know what I mean

I see what you did there...Sounds like he affects plenty of wood nowadays.....if you know what I mean
His vulnerability to wood was because his green energy was an incarnation of “green, growing things” and thus could not be turned against them.

I'm gonna ruin the joke by saying that it's because he's gay. :|
The joke's already been run into the ground too many times.

the guy is straight
If by straight you mean gets turned on by wood, then yeah, hes as straight as an arrow.
There was once a story that suggested it was a manifestation of his subconscious since his ring isn't like the others for some reason. In his first appeerrence (if you can find it) you'll see he gets hit from behind with a wooden club, and he therefore thought that it was because the ring could not effect it, and since he thought it it became true since the ring is limited only by it's users will power. I think before the parallax retcon the same thing was said about the corp's rings inability to effect the color yellow and that the guardians mad this told the corps this weakness in order to create a fail safe in case any Lantern went rogue. but I think that Alan Scotts weakness still stands as a manifest of the time he was hit by the club.

Dammit BlackArmor, I saw this thread and immediately planned to make that exact joke. Imagine my disappointment when I saw you beat me to it.

@kal_smahboi: The pre Flashpoint Alan had the wood weakness retconned away some time ago after absorbing all the power of the starheart. Basically it came from the fact that his original power came from the good magic of the power of life and as such he couldn't adversely affect life. SInce the DNA of wood is very similar to life his power won't affect it .
