Alan Moore is a British comic book writer, one of the most prominent and acclaimed in history. His eminent works include Watchmen, From Hell, V for Vendetta, Miracleman, Tom Strong, Promethea, and The Saga of Swamp Thing.
Gotta agree with Krakoa, 'Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow' is one of the best Superman stories ever written and was the most epic way to say goodbye when he was about to get rebooted by John Byrne.
That's most definitely my personal favorite. :)
Also can't ignore the impact the Killing Joke had on me, easily a very close second.
