This isn't Disney's Aladdin
Wow. The first issue of Aladdin: Legacy of the Lost starts out at an incredible pace and doesn't let up. The story and pacing is well thought-out, not rushed even though it is pretty fast, nor is it bogged down by meaningless dialogue. We see a young and troubled Aladdin trying to work through his own issues before stumbling upon the Genie in the Lamp. He's young, yes, but very courageous and mainly just hustlin', trying to make ends meet in a world with clear class distinctions.
The art is beautiful and a bit too embellished but in a good, and not what you typically see in subjects like Aladdin. I loved the coloring, not overwhelmingly bright but also not so dark that your eyes have trouble focusing on the characters or locations. It's obvious this isn't centered on realism, nor are the characters, but the designs are exceptional, and at times evoke emotions.
I would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for something full of action, exciting, and a real page turner. 5/5 or 10/10, whatever barometer you want to use, this issue couldn't have been better.
