Executive Editor Mike Marts announced today that he is leaving Marvel to join the upstart company Aftershock comics as Editor-in-Chief. Reported by Deadline, Marts will be joining former Marvel writer Joe Pruett to start this new company. Marts has been at Marvel for about a year and was working on GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. He is also known for his work at DC where he edited BATMAN, which includes the Pre-52 Grant Morrison run on the book.

Marts and Pruett are joining co-CEO Michael Richter, from eBay and Facebook and the other co-CEO Jon Kramer, who was involved in reality television. In addition, there's Aftershock President Lee Kramer who once worked at Mandalay Pictures.

Huh, didn't see that one coming.

Yes. Why not? It is a good topic to talk about. He is leaving to start a new company with others. This is sweet promotion for those who are interested in reading something new in comics. This is for us to know to keep an eye out on what might happen. There might be good comics coming our way from Aftershock. (+)

To add to what yung said, he's also a pretty well known editor. IIRC, his defection from DC to Marvel was covered on this site as well.

Worth keeping an eye out for. Let's see what they can lure for creators. That's what will make or break them.
