Aegis is one of the Proemial Gods, who are said to prepare all that exists for what is to come. They were created to keep balance in the living universe. Edit
Aegis had lived in this universe since it was young. She was tasked with sorting out the divergences of the living universe. She destroyed all of the chaos mites that Diableri created. After the Proemial Gods lost their battle with Galactus, Aegis and Tenebrous were the only survivors and they were imprisoned by Galactus at the edge of the universe. They remained there for centuries until the Annihilation wave entered the positive universe and damaged the prison. They escaped along with Fallen One, Galactus's first herald, and Kosmos the Maker, also known as the Beyonder. Tenebrous drained the strength of Fallen One and he and Aegis confronted and easily defeated Galactus and Silver Surfer. They eventually returned to their old prison to search for any other surviving Proemial Gods but they only found the body of Antiphon the Overseer. The Silver Surfer found them here and managed to kill them both.
