With this issue, writer Steve Gerber brings back Jennifer and Andy Kale, who seemed like throwaway characters a couple issues back. The plot thickens as we learn that there is a greater connection between the Man-Thing and Jennifer Kale than previously known. Also, we learn that somehow the fate of all humanity rests with the Man-Thing.

O.K., so with all this exposition and long-range planning, obviously the story is mostly spent setting up future plotlines more than telling one concise story like last issue. However, with the introduction of demons, cults and, most importantly the concept of the Nexus of All Realities, we can see that Man-Thing is in for a strange ride.

The backup story has no credit for the writer (Stan Lee would be a good guess), but we know the artist is Don Heck. It involves a cowardly man in Japan who tries to avoid military service during WWII, with disastrous results. Pretty ho-hum really, although perhaps an interesting insight into how Japanese soldiers were viewed by Americans in the post war period.
