    What to make of it?

It is interesting in the wake of DC's decision to incorporate all titles into the mainstream DC universe, that there was a time when it was quite common to have titles completely outside of the continuity.  At DC for instance in the 1980s Star Trek was a long running series which had nothing to do with superheroes.  Another such series was this one, Advanced Dungeons and Dragons.  Of course with such a title it is obviously based on the role playing game, but I was curious to see how this would translate to a comic.  The end result is actually not bad, but it is clear that the writers are trying to stay wed to the rules of the game at times more so than the plot of the issue.  One of the main ways this shows up is in the use of spells, instead of just using the spell I guess they are somehow bound by what spells they can use, as in one rather clumsy sequence where a giant insect is first turned to stone to then be turned to mud, instead of not just turning it straight to mud.  There are of course a few other cliches here, the white and tall male hero, the attractive female elf, the feisty dwarf, but the other two characters are interesting enough.Still with all that considered I am not sure how to place this story or series.  It seems to be readable once those obstacles are cleared, but it does take some patience.
