Grant Morrison on the telling on the re origin. Again I stick to my guns, my opinion for this retelling of Superman history I don’t see the reason why the reboot. Let’s just say this reboot was for sales, basically we remember Marvel rebooting there books at # 1 and we’ve seen sales go up just by the illusion that it’s a first issue. We take a break from the current story to learn of Superman's past. It's nicely done. This story and the backup story have extra resonance with me because I'm married and the wife and I would like to have a kid some day. I'm sure the younger readers didn't respond in the same way to it. Morrison does a pretty good job explaining things and even linking something in the backup story to issue #2. The only thing that didn't make sense to me as they introduced the negative zone is why Jor-El thought...

This issue has a really nice cover. It lets you know what you're in for with the interruption in terms of story and artwork, and it's got a really smart design. The destruction of Krypton is so massive it stretches out beyond the bounds of the image, but really, it's behind us now. We look the baby Kal-El in the eyes as his cradle ship heads right for us.Andy Kubert's art is a really nice fit for this story, like Gene Ha was a few issues back in his fill-in portions.
